New sofa

I'm looking to buy a new sofa / couch for my new apartment.
I found a few on Ikea, but would like to avoid buying from them.
Here's what I like:

I'm into modern, minimal, but comfy.
I checked Knoll and Design Within Reach (wayyyyy out of my budget, and didn't love what they had to offer).
Anyone have suggestions?

my friends got the best couch off eBay at about 30% of retail. The seller specialised in getting rid of old floor stock from the higher end retailers.

Sit in them. Then decide. Also, bensen, out of vancouver is a really good mid-range option, and also a sofa that will last for a long long time. Much longer than the ikea ones.

- dude, sectionals are expensive, but a nice sized "neo" in charcoal wool / cashmere is $1800 canadian.brains

As brains said definitely be sure to sit on them first. Some of the Ikea couches are really uncomfortable. I found one their that is really nice, brown leather.

Ikea makes some unusually uncomfortable seating.
- i agree that their sofas are uncomfortable but their reclining chairs are very cozy...utopian

Macy's of all places has a few more modern sofas that are unexpected and cheap. I bought the Corona sofa in a dark brown and it works well in a modern setting. Macy's always has sales going on so you can get it as little as 600 on a sale day.
