I cant remember the name but there was a modern art / design musuem on the river. I found it by accident walking back from the Eiffel tower.
If you (or anyone) knows what I am talking about you should check it out. It was run by a type foundry.

When I was there in May there was something that looked like a festival around Canal St Martin. Street performers, a wooden carousell in a park with live music on it, open air theatres, drum, rock and jazz bands an weirdos. Apparently it was organized by a local culture animation centre, perhaps they do it more often.
The Canal is a nice area to walk through too.

It's been a while since I visit Paris, but I'm surprised no one mentions the Cité des Sciences (http://www.cite-sciences.fr/).
I hear you can have a really good time there.
