As some of you might know I stopped working in advertising and moved out to Alberta to work in the oil patch. There is a real following for this guy out here. He talks like everyone here and acts like everyone here. If you ever wondered what it would be like to make a career change this guy could be your co-worker.

    • Funny guy, bit of a Fubar ripoff. And there there's super punchers: https://www.youtube.…

I live in Calgary and Golden BC. Every country sucks. You have to go to work..pay your taxes...Justin loves to hobnob. That said I'm proud to be Canadian. why:

Racism doesn't really exist here. Not alot of segregation here. Everyone gets Canadian washed.

It's fucking cold. No igloos...but putting on winter weight and being fat and wearing cool jackets is nice.

Health care. I usually only go to get some cialis and ativan to fly.

We do say sorry a bunch. I once opened a door for someone and said sorry.

Only issue is not alot of cool places to live. Vancouver island and Montreal is it.

I love Hawaii, Greek Islands and Croatia...very similar people to Canadians.

    • Ya... Maybe not your neighbourhood. But racism is still in Canada. Not as bad as south of the border tho. They do have higher population.pango
    • Canada is ok.robotron3k

    • lol...not a lot of segregation here. did you portal in from a time machine?hotroddy

There are over 550,000 native french speakers in Ontario. They pay taxes, and they have the right to continue their education in their own language. French and English are the official languages of this country, so it's not like an immigrant minority asking us to adapt to them. This is our citizens demanding that their right to education be upheld.

It's totally unacceptable to me that a province, which is required by the constitution to manage education, would deprive tax payers of the higher education they actually pay for already. This goes to show what kind of a low life Doug Ford is, he doesn't care about our institutions that ultimately bind us together. He doesn't see that this would be a source of strength, having two major cities in this country with proper universities that are fully french would be a major achievement for Canada. You would actually start to see young people from France come in for a degree and maybe stay and enrich our country more...

anyways, I'd gladly kick that fat fuck in the face if I had the chance.

    • Ontario is not a bilingual province and either is Quebec.spot13
    • What's your point? Education is still a right. He talks about balancing the budget, when in fact they actually pay enough taxes to have their own uni.zarkonite
    • My point is that if you want bilingual schools, vote in a government that would make Ontario bilingual.spot13
    • Otherwise there is always New Brunswick - the only French and English province - where the public education system is available in both official languagesspot13
    • There are english public schools in Quebec from K to PhD. The point of having rights is to protect minorities, your scenario of a bilingual government willzarkonite
    • never happen. The math can't work. As a matter of fact, they did have a french speaker and she quit cuz they told her to shut up.zarkonite
    • You're right, Ontario is not likely to become a bilingual province seeing how 96% of Ontario residents don't speak Frenchspot13
    • hehe I was just thinking you're right in that the next government could sweep up these votes by promising what the conservatives won't do =)zarkonite
    • Democracy! Lolspot13

/\ My name is Ben, I live in Ontario so I'll bite.

I think it's a shame we have him in office in the first place, but it makes sense given the political climate in NA and given that the Liberals really did nothing to help their cause over the past few years.

There's not a ton of French-speaking (only) Canadians in Ontario but it seems odd to alienate them in the way he's doing. I don't know if I disagree with cutting the university build entirely, but overall it seems short-sighted and little more than posturing against the Federal gov to look good in the eyes of the people who voted for him - or maybe it's because he's THAT scared of actually having to learn to speak French, which he promised to do when he took office.

But this is what you get when an uneducated buffoon takes office, and I don't mean uneducated in scholastic terms (though that's also true) - he's just a non-curious, simple-minded Ontario boy who's playing to his base of the same.

    • DF didn't have to do anything to win, the Liberals decided that their utopian (socialist) vision for society was more important than the peoplespot13
    • Anyone running as the PC leader would have won and it's a growing problem that the leader selection process for the parties (NDP and Liberal too) is so flawedspot13
    • You'll note I said as much about the Liberals. Still, df largely wins with dimwits more concerned with cheap beer than much else.ben_
  • pango2

    Yo Ben
Asking you cuz I don't know any French Canadian...
What you think of gov(ford) cutting french language service?
    Or don't care?

I haven't noticed a difference at all. I expected potheads would be really annoying for the first few months, trying to get high everywhere and make sure everyone was aware they were at it, but nothing.

The postal strike might play a role in that though...

    • we've been smoking so much in vancouver, we really can't smoke anymore despite legalization.pango
    • Went to get my license stickers the other day and the Service Canada office smelled like weed - usually it smells like cigarettes and timmies.ben_
    • postal strike was timed wellGnash
    • noticed more conversations are happening out in the open now. People have let their guard down when discussing weed._niko
    • It's like when they legalized toplessness on beaches and in parks and in the street. Absolutely nothing changed, nobody does it any more than before._niko
    • although I do smell it in the streets more than beforeGnash
    • i did notice it at the beach during the lighting of the christmas trees, huge crowds of people with families and it was definitely in the air._niko
    • although nowadays we don't know who's vaping or using oils or even edibles, which as non-smokers we much prefer._niko
