Was thinking of doing my website as a wordpress blog, with new work added as I do it and archive projects added as and when I fancy it.
Is this a bit shit? I do print & art direction and have not the time to learn web stuff nor the money to pay anyone.....
Thoughts?

I think you could get away with it

i'm working on exactly the same at the moment, but i'm not done and know a bit about 'web stuff'. anyways, it works, but there are pretty cheap themes out there that does this quite well.

Might be easier to get an Indexhibit site off the ground

There's nothing wrong with it, it makes sense if you want to update on a regular basis.
You can create your own layout anyway so there's no real limit to what you do with it but you keep the convenient admin side of it.

I merged my blog, portfolio, and publishing venture a year and a half ago. Though not ideal as a visual folio, that wasn't the main aim at the time. What is nice is that because I use it for numerous things, I get traffic from various sources checking out the site for different reasons, with people inevitably checking out the portfolio.

Behavior's site is a nice example of wordpress as portfolio

- It's nothing special but speaks to a certain corporate / executive clientele...d_rek
- Why is it vomit?Andrew_D
- whether or not you like the design, it's a great example of the point of this thread.scenek

i do it now. i'm no developer but it wasn't too hard to make my own basic theme. content management is a breeze now

Personally I think it's fine. I don't see any problem with it. What matters most is the work IMO.
My own portfolio is a wordpress site, but the actual "portfolio" part is a static wordpress page.

I've been trying this approach-- so far, my problem is updating. I haven't been able to muster the self-discipline it requires. As it turns out: I'm languid.

My portfolio is WorPress as well. It's not too complicated to theme and super flexible once you get into it. There's even a couple portfolio themes out there -- http://www.wpzoom.com/design/wor…. But whatever you do, remember it's supposed to be a portfolio not a blog...

I saw a really nice one the other day. Let me see if I can find it in my Delicious marks.
There it is. If I were to do what you're doing, I'd probably modify this one and use it.
