How often do a spot of computer house keeping and do a fresh re-install of your OS?
I fall into the "lazy" category by never doing it but I know folk who swear by doing it monthly.

there is absolutely no need for doing it monthly, no offense but either your friend does not know much about computers, or he just got a lemon, he needs to sell it to someone else on CL and get something stable

I guess if its a testing machine and you are an app developer, you probably need to install and uninstall things all the time, on different operating system versions..
but either then, you can always reghost, no need to uninstall..- revo works best for killing those hidden files and registry entriestrooperbill

You only need to do this if you run windows -> get a real operating system (osx or linux) and you install once.

well I prefer a fresh install with a new machine, but that's like 2-3 yearish ..

i usually refresh all my machines once a year, not that it's completely necessary, but it's cathartic and i like to reflect on my workflow at a stage where i can easily change it

I try for once a year, but usually put it off for a few weeks or months so maybe twice every three years. :/ I'm pretty loosey-goosey with it.

Once a year is probably ideal. I used to do it every year religiously, but my interests have since changed and I've learned to live with a bit of imperfection.

you dont have to reinstall much if you keep care of your box. usually only with os releases. or if u think theres some data corruption. or if u have been downloading every .exe you can find on the web. linux could be cool if graphics worked on it. osx well thats more for your less then average consumer.
