family seems boring. why would you get that anyway?

of course. she has been very supportive and empathetic. only now the shoe is on the other foot. we went thru a similar time when deciding whether or not for her to continue work or stay at home. hmmm....

To each their own, but I'm with version3's first post.
Wrapped in a cozy layer of better bedside manner, of course. :)

Have you asked *her*? She may be more supportive than you think.
- i was wondering what you, coco, sputnik?, _sal_, and juhls would sayversion3
- It's not fair in my case. MrMayo and I have chosen not to have kids.mayo
- sounds like you remembered the communication part in your relationshipversion3
- HAhaaha I brought it up quite bluntly.mayo

I think it depends on how much of a work/family imbalance we're talking about here... both you and your wife contribute to your family unit in certain ways and whatever you won't be able to contribute anymore has to be compensated for, it's up to you to work this out with your wife really. But to me it's not as clear cut as one or the other takes precedence, I mean so far you've told me that you pretty much chose to level off your career to support your family and enable your wife to stay at home maybe it's time to give your career a little push, your happiness does depend in part on your work situation. Not to say your wife being at home taking care of business isn't a vital part of the process, I for one would rather have my wife taking care of my kids full-time but I would NEVER EVER take a shit job to enable that.

i'll never choose work over family, its a no brainer

The work/life balance is hard to get right, unless you're very lucky, one will always suffer.
- but you did make a choice having kids... soooo, you already know the answer.Jnr_Madison
- the only way to truly not have kids is to be abstinent ... I guess I've been very activePoint5
- there are other waysversion3

family really is more important. I'm realizing that now that I'm am absolutely slammed between my freelance and 9-5 gigs. You know it's bad when you make time to hang out with your fam because you've been working so much and your son turns to you and says “Dad, don't you have to go get some work done?”

Is this the place to ask‽
- random peoples opinions. what more could you ask for?sikma
- the opinions of your parents or close friends?baseline_shift
- possibly. possibly not. i do like that people are brutally honest. that and the random bits of rumour peppered throughout.M_C_P
- why not ask here, it's all designers who may have been in the same position at some point.Jnr_Madison

Family is everything.
If your career is more important, you should have not had the family.

How old are you?

get divorced and marry a gay interior designer. That'll keep you busy... ;)

raise your market value on your own time?
start some personal projects that challenge you
- lvl_130
you had time to do that before you had a family. family is more important.
that being said, there has to be a happy medium in there somewhere. you just need to find it. that is where the challenge lies :)
