this is kind of macabre... counting deaths...
but needs to be done...

Has anyone died outside of Mexico yet?
If not, that may mean that even though the virus can spread from person to person, it gets weaker on second and third transmission and may not be fatal.
- viruses don't work like that, they mutate and adapt, the time off response is a lot more important in these casesGeorgesII
- and i'm no fuckn epidemiologist so I could be talking nonsense :)GeorgesII
- Nobody outside of mexico yet. All cases outside have been "mild to harmless."brains
- its not like a videotape where it loses quality when making a copy of a copyemukid
- Ukit, you are correct. It could be very virulent, but with a low mortality rate. Played poker with an ID guy last night..TheBIueOne

no yet... no deaths outside of Mexico.
I am actually right now watching Mexican news over the internet to get the latest...
What's weird is that normal people are saying it's a lot worse than what the Media says.
- ukit0
Actually that is how it works. The "first wave" of transmission from animal to human is the most deadly in cases like these.

WTF... the news just reported that Pharmacies and businesses are running out of masks and some people took advantage of this and went out to purchase as many as possible to try to sell them for like 40 times its cost to make a business out of it... 6 detained by the police so far...

If it become out of control, I will pack my stuff and heading up north of Quebec province to live in the woods with indians.
Am I wrong or the people were not that anxious when the bird flu (H5N1) hitted us a couple years ago? We had a lot more dead than swine flu no? It was all around europe, asia and even Toronto.

When the first zombie will rise, then we will panic. My baseball bat is ready. Maybe i need a shotgun too...

What an awful name, pig flu.
My mind keeps thinking extremely obese people walking around sneezing up cheetos and biscuits all over the place.

"Mexican virus could throw wrench into North America's pandemic ...
A deadly strain of swine flu has broken out in Mexico, killing at least 616 people and raising fears it is spreading across Northe America. "
- benfal990
people are still getting to Mexico for trips... what are they waiting to close the borders !?
- It did not originate in Mexico. Mexico was a receiver.VectorMasked
- do they know who the quarter back was?monNom

"In the crowded Mexican capital of 20 million people museums were closed and public events scrapped, from concerts to a running race. Sunday soccer matches were closed to spectators."
soccer matches closed to spectators! must be very weird to see
- funny the athletes can still travel and run around togetherversion3

"The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed that at least some of the cases are a new strain of the virus."
Already?! I mean how the fuck does something like that happen so quickly?
"So it may turn out that there is some other kind of infection at work in Mexico, as well as the new flu virus."
???

GREAT. another thing stupid people can blame Mexico for, other than taking away those back breaking strawberry picking jobs from the citizens of this country.
- +1. The virus is not even Mexican and Mexico will get blamed for all this.VectorMasked
- Some sources and Mexican officials are suggesting it came from Asia to California and then Mexico City.VectorMasked
- yes heard about the pig farm in Cali too from Presidential addressBattleAxe

From BBC:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/talkiā¦"I'm a specialist doctor in respiratory diseases and intensive care at the Mexican National Institute of Health. There is a severe emergency over the swine flu here. More and more patients are being admitted to the intensive care unit. Despite the heroic efforts of all staff (doctors, nurses, specialists, etc) patients continue to inevitably die. The truth is that anti-viral treatments and vaccines are not expected to have any effect, even at high doses. It is a great fear among the staff. The infection risk is very high among the doctors and health staff.
There is a sense of chaos in the other hospitals and we do not know what to do. Staff are starting to leave and many are opting to retire or apply for holidays. The truth is that mortality is even higher than what is being reported by the authorities, at least in the hospital where I work it. It is killing three to four patients daily, and it has been going on for more than three weeks. It is a shame and there is great fear here. Increasingly younger patients aged 20 to 30 years are dying before our helpless eyes and there is great sadness among health professionals here."

What scare me the most is the fact that the virus is attacking and killing young people in good health aged between 20 and 30... this is pretty weird. Normaly virus kill childrens, old people and sick people. So WTF is that new virus??
- i think people over 35/40 will have antibodies from one of the weaker mini-pandemics in the 60/70's ..********

Benfal don't be such an idiot.
Do you think the Virus gets to someone's body and says "nah... this dude is 55... too old for me... won't kill him then and will get me a young 30-year-old red head instead".
What this means is simply that all people are vulnerable since the virus might shut down certain bodily functions or something. It's like nothing special.
And btw... that post you posted is pretty hollywood-like. Sounds like a bunch of bullshit from some clown and not an actual doctor. Ages are not 20 to 30... they are 35 to like 45... the ones that got infected are the ones that have been in crowded public places. That comment about "retire or applying for holidays" makes me laugh... it's not that easy to get holidays and shit like that in Mexico. It doesn't work that way there. it's ridiculous.
People are not dying like he says they are... I got family in Mexico and I am and I am getting a close look at it. I got to see on tv the mother of a infected person and she just the son felt bad and they just went to the hospital... they have been in the hospital for like 3 days and during the interview the mom seemed pretty chilled.- oops... that last part was based on homeostatic's post... not benfal's...VectorMasked
