Does any one here go climbing? With ropes and stuff? I've booked a climbing course, i've decided i need a new recreational pursuit.

I have climbed in the picture you posted peter, but I tend to do outdoor climbing only, I like that much more than indoor climbing :). Have a wicked time, my climbing training consisted of my dad putting a harness on me and saying 'Right bonny lad dodge up that, off you pop'.

^^ I could live in there.

Where are you Pete? I used to go a lot in London - the Castle in north london is the best, another good place in Nottinghill.

- Westway, wicked place! Some hardcore climbers there!jysta
- Gordy220
Yeah - it is. Good luck - such good fun but prepare for your forearms to cramp like f*ck.

I get the climbing up part but not the climbing down part. how hard is down climbing?
- you don't down-climb in sport climbing. Your partner lowers you on a rope. Like the KING OF THE MOUNTAIN!monNom

Can't be arsed with that - just rappel / dangle / fall
- Nairn0
Yes.
Tiring and middle class.
- PUSH YOURSELF BEFORE YOU DIE, BECAUSE YOU'VE NEVER TRULY FELT ANYTHING. Or something.Nairn
- more enjoyable than a gympeterorpete
- Undoubtedly!Nairn
- Still, climbing does feature women with sweat on their brow and moderate panic on their faces. Excellent.Nairn
- Sadly, outmatched by my own huffing red mass of damp apoplexic terror.Nairn

I think someone should turn coal mining into extreme sport.

It's like running but for your forearms, you need to do it often to get any good at it. But once you get past the curve its super addictive :-))) Just make sure you get the right boots and and use talc if you don't wear socks.
- where do you climb?peterorpete
- Socks and boots are for ice-climbing. Anything else is just in slippers....********
- I used to climb Guildford (vertex and craggy), Southampton St Mary's and Westway) Calshot, Breckan Beacons, jysta
- but I had to quit due to toe problems and hernia :-(jysta
