I'm with uan here... try the firewire mount.
Borrowing a FW cable shouldn't be too hard hopefully, but I know my friends have done this a few times. Find a friend with a MacBook. However not sure it will work in your situation, but seems like the best shot right now.

Is this the MBP with the metalic keys and the "good for design screen"?
if so, it happened to me a while ago, after a month of repairs and tests, apple replaced my computer with a new mbp (the one w the black keys and reflective screen)
even if your laptop is out of warranty, they will fix or replace for free, there was a recall for this, but they kept it on the dl, I had to find the page that said that my model may have a n-videa card malfunction, and take the page to the store in order to get my refund.
Tip: Get some comfortable / flexible clothes, and get ready to pivot through a cascade of brainless "geniouses" at the store, they will flow like cascade in front of you, hoping to distract you from talking to the store manager.
Best of luck on this mission, if succesful (and considering you have the same flaw I had) you can recover your entire data w no problem.

I was gonna say it's your logic board. Same shit happened to me ... I was out of warranty. Cost me 400.00 ... which really is not that bad. They repaired my drive, power button, and logic board. Actually the USA cost for any out of warranty repair is $400.
