I work with a guy from Iran andis a follower of the Bahá'í faith which originated in Persia. This faith calls for harmony between science and religion, equality between man and woman, peace between nations, condemnation of prejudice of prejudice on grounds of religion, race, class (but not sexuality) and it calls for the reduction in the extremes between the wealthy and poor. The teachings do prefer marriage and unions between man and woman but don't discriminate against homosexuality. It also basically identifies unity with all religions...
the guy is a scientist with a PhD and is tolerant as fuck... but he'd probably think you're a a bit of a dick.

ok all religions are open to your interpretation, you can decide to be whatever you want based on how well you think it all fits, and come up with ways for it to fit where it doesn't. the real question is who gives a shit? why do you have to sign up to be part of a club? can you not just believe what you believe and take whatever relevant knowledge you see fit to take from wherever you see fit to take it from?

why can't you guys accept that there's a lot more out there than you know it, if you don't believe in god or ghost or spaghetti I dare you to try a ouija board,
those who had a religious upbringing are rejecting it in a greater number than born again one ( i just made that up) but seriously I decided for myself to research the ancient religion and discovered lots on interesting things that we see daily but don't associate with ancient rituals. there's a lot more than the bible, koran, torah (amazing) out there,
get a copy of the Bhagavad Gita or the book of enoch, try to read the bible, get interrested in the real story underlining the today's dogma, beeing atheist is the new trendy thing but don't be lazy even if you don't believe in a god, try to read some ancient text and you'll see that there's a more to life than what you see.- LOL'd at ouija board. it nullifies everything you say that can make sense.October

when you read a book does it affects you (if you read off course)
then consider these text as simple history or fantasy, if you take them too seriously you fall in the fundamentalist trap.
the importance is to know them and know that they are some book that weren't part of the bible, that the history of the world isn't only occidental,
the bible is a great book, but that's it, I smile when I hear someone say "I read the bible" because its not something you can read literraly from start to end, you need to take every excerpt with a grain of salt and try to understand that what you are reading has been modified 50 times and is still modified.
no need to be religious to find some wisdom in some text
