I don't know about you guys but I think photoshop is a thing of the past now for designing websites. Maybe I am just used to illustrator, but I don't think I would ever design a concept/wire frame outside of Illustrator.
Illustrator > Photoshop for designing websites (not individual graphical elements)

are you fucking serious? this place is filling up with clowns.
- How do you design your layout?wademd
- Def not illy...Wireframes yes but that it...BannedKappa
- wireframes in illy? that would be a lot quicker using inDesing, multiple pages, paragraph styles etc.stewart

As far as blending modes, the new web 2.0 look.... Illustrator is actually really great for designing the concept of your site.

I mostly work in illustrator, but when I do website comps I use photoshop. I guess its all how you work and feel comfortable with.
- airey0
of course it is and if that's the tool of your choosing then great but blanket statements based around your personal work methodology is ridiculous. some people use photoshop only, some illustrator only, hell i know a few that use indesign only. do whatever you like, that's the whole point. use the method that you find the most useful for the way you design.
it's just tiring to hear broad statements from people who - and i mean no offence - but who have at best a couple of years experience professionally, telling the world how it runs simply because they're the kind of person who seem to think the way they work is the only way.
- correction: wademd has only referred to him/herSELF and not the 'world'. you may want to re-read wademd's remarks...styleplus

I really only use Photoshop for graphic elements, and photo manipulation and such. I don't know I just feel like you have to do more steps to accomplish the same thing.
Its funny when I went to the Art Institute people were afraid to use illustrator because they thought there was a huge learning curve... Not sure what that was all about.
- illustrator is like magic, wtf were these people thinking?!zarkonite

Airey... I am not saying its the only way to go, but I am trying to see if anyone has started to switch to designing websites in the new CS4 since it has new web features.
- airey0
i've been using cs4 since it was released but it made fuck all difference to the way i design. a few new tools, a cleaner interface, some enhancements help and it's a bit faster but that's about it.
- wademd0
omg... so much faster... even photoshop... I remember PS7 used to take FOREVER to load!!!! Now it feels like 5 seconds tops

ps > enough said

I agree, start in Illustrator every time, why wouldn't you? Gives you more control.
- wademd0
judging by that pervious post its pretty mixed. Thanks for the link.
My thoughts... Illy and inD for layouts and Pho for pixel pushing

The next time I have to create a 36 page brochure I am going to use Illustrator, and the next time I have to create a vector based logo I will use Photoshop, just saying...
- do the brochure in fireworks. it'll save you time.airey
- Actually I think you should use After Effects for the brochure. You can give it that extra pop!wademd
- Use InDesign for multiple pages. Illustrator would suck shit at that.monospaced

Fireworks.
It's built and designed with the purpose of creating web content, at least that's what Adobe's business plan says. It handles all types of content we use for the web, it's like they took the features from Ill and PS that made sense for web design and packaged them in an application...
in any case, use whatever you have to and get the job done... personally, I use marijuana to help me design.

I think fireworks is the only program I have yet to figure out what its purpose is I mean with Illustrator/Photoshop and if you don't know to code by hand there was Dreamweaver... But does fireworks really need to exist?
- for those Animated Gif banners, it'll optimize the shit out of anything.zarkonite

I guess my preference for Illustrator boils down to the fact that I like to start my design by drawing out the shapes in a wireframe style and being able to have those as vectors to style in any way. Drawing paths seems easier and more intuitive in Illustrator.
Now if you want to throw some lens flares and rainbows around I guess PS is your ticket.

Unless you're designing a flash site where you'll want to keep vectors intact, I'd stick to using Photoshop for web design. You're designing for screen, so why not use a program that excels at doing just that.
If you get a nice grid set up with your guides, you can knock up a design just as quick as you could in Illustrator, and you've already created the assets to send to the Dev team.
I suppose it's each to their own, but for me, its Photoshop all the way.

Photoshop.

Illy is not Pixel perfect and anti-alias's everything, where as PS has a clean finish. Try saving our a single pixel keyline in Illy – ewwww.
- You can set prefs to snap to pixel, or position 1px keylines at .5px. Gives the exact same result at PS. Except you can edit it far more easily.monoboy
