Who does this, and why do/would you? (Assuming you're NOT creating a Flash site)
I met someone in an interview who was excited that I worked in PS instead of Illy. Almost wanted to respond with a blank stare.

I know people who do...There are some advantages for using AI - particularly for HTML / CSS sites. AI has some nice styleguide features that make production of a ton of pages a lot easier. Personally, though, I would jump off a bridge if I had to trade AI for PS for designing sites (Flash or CSS)

Well for one it is easier to make shapes, align and get measurements but ya designing for web in illustrator should not be an every day thing. That is like designing a catalog in illustrator, that is not what it's for. It says illustrator because that is what it's for.

kinda like how i cringe when a web designer goes to photoshop to design a logo because they don't know how to draw with vectors.
i've used illy to comp the few web projects i've been involved with.
who cares. just a tool. whatever works. end product is what matters.

I use Illustrator to do concepts, then jump in Photoshop when the refining starts happening. I just work faster in Illustrator when doing comps.

Doing the basic layout in Illy also helps when it comes to including Flash elements, if you're into that kind of thing.

I design all websites with Illustrator.
I'm proficient with both, but for pure speed, power, flexibility, typography control, Illustrator absolutely shits all over Photoshop. I've worked in studios with designers using Photoshop, it's a joke. Illustrator was always intended for layout and 'design', Photoshop has been hacked together with features as it's evolved.
As for pixels, I suggest going to:
View > Pixel Preview
in Illustrator. Wow!

I design—as in, create the entire look of—websites in InDesign and Illustrator all the time. I'm a print guy, and I'm often asked to do this. I don't know anything about creating a website, so I let other guys do that. They have never once complained about being handed over an Illustrator file that they can copy and paste into Photoshop or whatever. The result can often be cleaner, with better type, anyways.

I totally agree with Juddly. Illustrator is the way to go.

yep, studios that design will photoshop are a joke.
it's these kind of blanket statements that makes me think a lot of designers really are tools with nothing better to get wound up about.
- Juddly0
I'm sorry skt.
Blanket retracted.But PCs rule.
- my new office only has macs. so i installed xp on it.
*ducks.skt - Ha, nice. Truth be told, I really only use it as a shell. http://www.gpsoft.co… Opus is the shit.Juddly

I've been asking why something like catalyst doesn't exist for years--I mean, ffs, designers used to have to code their own postcript

I've always preferred Illustrator so I got better with it than Photoshop, which reinforced my preference, etc... I do love layer comps in PS, though.
