personally i think it'll stay, just in a different form. i mean the moment tv came along they all said radio was dead but it just stepped sideways and took it's place.

the angle david simon takes, which he's got experience in as he was a crime reporter for 12 or so years in baltimore, is that the issue is the lack of investigative reporting as the budgets are dropping and so the staff numbers are getting axed which in tern leads to more 'chequebook' journalism. although that already existed anyway, it's just got worse.

i think i'll just keep getting my news via the opinions on qbn as usual. that way i'll be maladjusted but have something to blame it on.

How to Become a "Death of Newspapers" Blogger
"Apparently, it's very simple. The more you self-reference, pick feuds and talk about the failure of TimesSelect, the better you're doing. If you make it sound like you're the one who figured out newspapers are dying, you win."

European Newspapers Find Creative Ways to Thrive in the Internet Age... it's not all doom and gloom...

It's certainly not from the lack of readers, or the Internet. Maybe it's the journalists' quality or worse - their sympathy for politically correct governments. I personally think it's the latter. They drive a lot of people away.

The industry will not die, only the format. The media are renowned at keeping pace with what out there.

who cares?
most of the time, things die because they are supposed to. if (eventually) everyone has a digital device on which they can read news anytime that is current and available in thousands of formats, why do you want a piece of paper with ink that is dated and kills trees to be made?
let the newspaper go. it had its time.

Move to India! Believe it or not, there's a thriving, growing market for newspapers, and journalism in India...

Actually, yeah, it's pretty much because of the Internet. Newspaper readership has actually gone up - but online, where the newspapers don't actually make any money.
