Honestly, I think Monocle is shit. Maybe even worse than wallpaper.

does anyone have any links to great news/magazine sites like good.is and monocle.com? i'm looking for well-designed homepages that show a lot of information, some pictorally and some via text, but with "meatier" content than, say, nytimes.com, which has a lot of very short headlines.
so far my shortlist has:
good.is
monocle.com
guardian.co.uk
motivemag.com
insideline.com

@bigtrickagain
The design's clunky, but better than The Guardian imo:
http://www.npr.org/This is better in some ways:
http://www.nationalgeographic.co…

I agree with neue's assessment on Monocle vs. Good.
I wonder if Wired has better content than both (granted, it's more about technology than design, news, or culture, though it covers all the above). My former studio had a subscription and I always enjoyed reading it over my lunch break.
I like Monocle. Haven't read much in-depth, though. As neue said, from a design standpoint it kills Good. I was thinking about subscribing to Monocle but now I'm on the fence. Maybe I'll get Wired instead. I'm kinda tired of pure design magazines. I like Eye, but I'm not independently wealthy.

i never liked wired the magazine - too much of its content is thinly-disguised product endorsement. wired the website is good, though - it's easier to skip past the product shills. i wouldn't say the design of wired.com is on par with good or monocle, though, since i feel it has too much headline and not enough content.
i like the economist as far as paper magazines go - it's the best buy at the airport before a flight, i feel. almost all substance, no fluff. foreign policy is similar - my gf subscribes to that one, though its focus is much narrower.

hmm i'm going to add cpluv.com to my little list.

I was a GOOD subscriber a couple years ago. It was a decent magazine, and I liked what I read in it. I also really thought the infographics were cool. I'm not familiar w Monocle til today though.
Magazines seem like such a waste of paper to me now, that I sort of feel bad buying/subscribing to one. I have some sort of paper guilt going on. I also don't feel like I have a lot of free time to just browse through a magazine. I'm kind of a big deal.

monocule's website looks a bit clunky above the fold.
