man, I'm onto 4 digit numbers now. I just did 1121 x 1221 in under 5 seconds. I will now be doing this on paper every day all the time until I can visualise it in my head and impress the hell out of chicks at parties

say it was 103 x 123 would you maybe take the 1 and the zero and make 10 strokes and 3 strokes?

gets really complicated later on, I tried 2011 x 1103, with the 20 expressed as 20 strokes etc. This gave me some big number to carry across when the sequence is added up at the end.
My answer came out at 2208233, while the correct answer is 2218133. This leads me to believe the way I'm carrying the numbers is fucked up, rather than the method (or maybe I've slightly miscounted on the massive amount of crosshairs that calculation produced).
Is it possible to have a stroke from too much geek at the one time?

nice one 5timuli, I was out at the shop there, but want to post about something I found with the way I was doing it which was weird.
when I did 2011 x 1103 that way, I ended up with the numbers:
20 201 71 13 3
to add up and do the carrying on in order to get the result.
initially I did this and wasn't sure how to carry the 201 into the 20 and got 42 as the stat of my answer; way off.
then I did it differently and ended up with the results above which were suspiciously clise to the correct answer so I went at it again.
I was still getting the same wrong answer whenever I was carrying number though, then I looked at my result=s differently and the following happened
20 201 71 13 3
record the 3 then the 13, without carrying anything, then ADD the 7 and 1 to make 8
we have 8133
then simply remove the zeros from the rest of the numbers and we have
2218133
which is the correct answer. wt fucking f? what logic is that following that I can't see? why do I carry numbers as normal in other calculations but with this one I get the correct answer by what seems like totally arbitrary (or at least lateral) means?
Am I arriving at your method for dealing with the 20 without realising it?
