I'm looking for some knee jerk reactions to an identity problem our architecture firm is dealing with. We house a landscape architecture studio and that group has a problem with the fact that the company mark doesn't represent them. We are looking to develop a complimentary mark that can stand alone and also be used beside the mothership's identity.
And if you also know of examples of more or less, complimentary sub-brands within a company they would great to see as well.

- looks like it's getting ready to fall down.monNom
- I agree. Seems like that's not the ideal image for an architecture firmMondoMorphic

Is that tile? Like in a landscaped garden?

Just a side note: To me that logo says 'loose' 'unorganised' 'playful' 'un-structured' 'bad foundation' etc
Which I think is absolutely the worst kind of imagery an Architechts logo should be putting out.

i like it but the type seems so austere compared to the graphic.

surely like bricks in an arch is the best metaphor - all the block supporting the rest to achieve an overall bearing of a load, and form an attractive and functional whole ?

i have a sudden urge to play that card-matching game

Oi. I figured this would happen. Unfortunately how good or bad the mark portrays an architecture firm is beside the point. Let's hope the designer isn't an active member of QBN.

utterly unbalanced. type&sign.

you need something that represents the way you do business. Looking at your website you need something modern, clean and structured.
One idea is to create three pictograms representing the areas you work in that are in the same visual style and tied together with typography and a similar use of colour. (one base colour paired with accents with similar brightness values)

"identity problem our architecture firm is dealing with"
easy...
its cause its either made in-house or by someone that know noting about branding. that's the main problem.solution...
give it to a brand builder.

could be cool if 'davis' was made up of those jiggly bricks. It would be kinda garden path-ish
- don't forget primary colors.akrokdesign

Fail

The identity was done by an outside firm. I know they had a hard time trying to get all the partners (8) on the same page. As with all of you, I have been disappointed with the new brand ever since it's launch a little more than a year ago.

it a problem when everyone has to put there hand in the cookie yard.
- someone should be the main man/woman. then the rest has to trust that.akrokdesign
- In a perfect world...grymes
- or perfect company. :-)akrokdesign
- are all 8 always looking at all project. and have saying on every thing. ???????akrokdesign
- Using this as an example, all 8 partners were invited to be a part of the decision process, but only 6 became involved. The other two going involved after the first mark was settled on, the rest whined and had it changed into what you see now. Care to see what it once was?grymes

That last side comment obviously didn't fit. To finish the thought,... 6 became involved. A logo was decided on (not much different from what you see) and then the last two and maybe a couple others had a change of heart thus putting the logo back into the chopping block creating what you see above. Care to see what it once was?
