I've got a load of shapes and symbols i want to put into the letter C to make the fill, but i also want them to be different sizes.
Does anyone know any good illy scripts/tricks that i would use to achieve this ?
Thanks

you want the pattern fill to be different sizes?
if so very easy. first create your patttern tile and drop it inside the swatch pallette, then when you fill the letter "C" shape, you can select that shape and change the size of the fill but make sure in the dialog box you only have checked the pattern only.- ok cheersWeLoveNoise

you can also re-size freely if you have your scale tool selected as well as the pattern fill. Press the tilde key and shift to scale uniformly and draw in or out depending on if you want the pattern to be smaller or larger.
- resize your pattern that is.
rodzilla - yeh that was my first idea but want to know if theres was a automated way of achieving it so the results could be more exact to edgesWeLoveNoise
- automated? like autobots?e-pill
- yeah send him one of your robots to do it for him eh?rodzilla
- rodzilla seems to know of our secret plan to take over the werld with robots filled with patterns!!e-pill
- indeed. :)rodzilla
- resize your pattern that is.

^ Why do you want to create a circle full of different size grey dots?

this might work for you. http://scriptographer.com/Script…
note that the scriptographer plug will make illy a bit weird. so disable the plugin once you are done with it. If you have weird issues happening open a new document and close it. illy will work fine after that. or at least until you run a scriptographer script the next time.
- much appreciated
does it matter what version of illy. i have them all just need heads upWeLoveNoise - i have CS3 on an intel mac. which i think is the latest.transmission
- i think that the version for CS2 on a PowerMac didn't have those issues.transmission

I did this, quickly for NT, by hand - I tried all Scriptographer scripts, to no avail. It's awkward getting started, but once you've got your groove on it doesn't take all that long to achieve. Certainly, if you're only doing one or two, I'd suggest not wasting your time looking for a labour-saving device, instead finnessing technique and composition.
- And yes, this isn't that good - it was a quick daft wee thing for single-use in a thread. It could be easily tho, is my point.Nairn
- yeh thanks for the kind wordWeLoveNoise
- how by hand, pleezealicetheblue

nice nairn - probably right not wasting my time and doing it myself.
how long it take u anyway ?- i remember that thread.. it looked like it took him less than 10 minutes.e-pill
- Under half an hour. Mostly dicking around with a tangible colour scheme - I used a 'vary hues' script..Nairn

Do it by hand. There is no design Easy Button.

- true but i am not trying to cheat my way like ur implying. i trying to enhance my skill and knowledge with illyWeLoveNoise

Just draw a variety of different sized circles, and drag them into a composition while holding down option/alt (copy drag), one by one.

mono read the first post > several different objects going to fill the letter C
the colour test was an easy example to explain what i was trying to achieve. i will prob do it myself but i need to made over 100 variations with different words using this technique - hense why i asked if there was a more time effective route maybe using scripts.
- right...the technique would work with the different object instead of circles. I'd get started if I were you!monospaced

alicetheblue - if you look at the graphic's faults, you'll see the 'technique' used.
I started off with the larger, enclosing circle and the text in the font that I wanted. I made the text opaque, then locked the two layers.
I made two or three smaller circle sizes, each slightly opaque and each with a consistent stroke width (so, at this stage, uncheck 'scale stroke' or whatever it's called in the transform menu). I used the consistent stroke width as an approximate guide for 'equal' positioning - after the piece is finished, I remove all outlines, so there are mere gaps.
I then filled one of the text characters with the circles, making more circles, further adjusting the sizes to fill the gaps. If I were doing it again, I'd do 'regions' around each character whole, instead of individual characters, then the background. That way I'd probably not end up with the wee circles around each characters' edge.
The process of filling areas merely comprises alt-click shifting each circle, moving it into position, then shifting the size a little to fit, using the stroke width to prevent things getting too close. You can go trhough it afterwards, filling blank areas with smaller circles.
So - fill the text areas with one colour of circles, the non text area with another colour of circles. Once its finished, employ a vary hue/vary opacity script and fiddle to finish.
I'm probably making this sound complicated - it's not!
- was that the old post? from the color blind thread?e-pill
- you should of changed the name to welovenoise instead of alice teh bluee-pill
- i know how to make this effect. just wanted to know if there was a method of achieving it faster.WeLoveNoise
- USE THE MAGIC WAND TOOL!!!
e-pill - it is magic after all...e-pill
- alicetheblue asked how it was done by hand in a note a few posts up, which is what I was responding to - hence her nameNairn

- thank you nairn!
I am doing this as we type :)alicetheblue
- duckofrubber0
Oh wow, with that many variations I do wish there was an automated or even semi-automated way to do this for you.

Nairn - that works pretty good .. thanks!
the more you know the more you know you don't know ;)
