I have an idea for a threadless t-shirt and need an illustrator with a playful style that might be interested in helping me. It would be pro-bono and just for fun. The idea is super simple ( - if you are serious about helping), tell you concept via email if willing to share the credit and split the prize or whatever free shiznat they give for winning submissions.

The idea involves "dogs"... Anyone know anyone that draws animals/dogs or has a nice graphic illustration style (similar to below).>>>

So .... you have an idea .... but an illustrator does all the work .... and the credit goes to you but share some.

The winner is ALWAYS Threadless though.

    Ka-Ching!!!!!

DUDES, it is a super simple idea (coming up with the idea is the hard part in my opinion)... I was just looking to see if someone wanted to illustrate it. OK, I'll pay, $100,000,000 for the illustration so I can earn some free tshirts. You really don't make any money from threadless and like you said >>> threadless tee's is the real winner. They make a ton off the designs and you get a few free shirts and perhaps a small bit of exposure. I didn't expect replies that made me sound like I wanted a "wrist"... It was more so about collaborating for a great execution which is the root of what most professionals do, sans the money (which some creatives aren't opposed to).

    • oh, so you've done all the hard work. I see. The illustration is so easy you don't pay for it.monospaced
    • Sorry, I didnt' word my offer properly, see below.

    • cirquemedia your talking sense, some fools can't take in information without having to be a-holes.

I also have had a couple ideas but lack the illustrative skill...probably won't ask anyone on here.

    • $$$$$$$$$$$$$ - it is mostly gift certificates and such if you read the fine print...
      ********
    • It's $2,000 cash and $500 in shirts and gift certificates... the total opposite of what you just said.mg33
  • brandelec0

is it a row of dogs sniffing each other's bums?

  • mg330

    cirquemedia,

Explain how the following is "mostly gift certificates and such."

    d. if your design is selected for print you will receive:
    # $2,000 in cash
    # $500 Threadless Gift Certificate (can be redeemed for $200 cash)
    # $500 in cash each time your design is reprinted

I'm pretty good at math, not the best, but good enough to know that $2,000 is greater than $500, and thus $2,000 cash is certainly more than "mostly gift certificates and such."

    Care to comment?

    • Um yes. If you divide 2k in half, you get $1,000 each. Yes, simple math. That is what I was offering.
      ********
    • Um, yes... If you divide 2k in half you get $1,000 bucks per person. I would gladly split that.
      ********
    • that means $1,000 cash, $250 gift certificates... which is still not "mostly gift certificates."mg33
    • sorry I'm being picky with your verbiage, but you said that about their payment terms, not splitting it up.mg33

pffft... big "idea" people. i prefer DIY folk.

and i think most illustrators have plenty of ideas they'd like to execute and submit to threadless, it's more an issue of finding the time to do it.

mg33 - Not to go all Christian Bale on your ass, but dude, okay... Since I didn't word my offer properly and draw up a contract... let me reMIX it for you with spell check. Overall, in big picture termanology>>> Whatever the prize is, it really isn't all that great from THREADLESS overall. Whether it be 2k, $236.42 in gift certificates or a free pony. I am offering half of whatever t-shirt wins. Whomever creates the illustration or design can create whatever screen name they want, can take all the credit... whatever. I just wanted to collaborate with an illustrator that had a different style than I. I can "do it myself (thanks horton), but my style is not right for the look and tone of the concept. Obviously, I was putting myself out there for the firing squad, as does anyone that post on this forum, but the intentions were good. This thread will die and I will come off as a spammer a$$ overall, but if someone wanted to join up (2, 3, 7 designers and put some rock star designs on that site - that was the goal). I have one or two ideas for shirts I really feel strongly could make it and wanted the execution to be "right". I don't care about the money and don't feel 1K is really that much money regardless of the creative project. I guess you do. I know there are some great illustrator on this forum and was sincere in my request. Don't make me smash your lights man!

cirque, you have shit business sense.

    it's simple:
    1) take your idea, sketch it on paper or in photoshop.
    2) commission an illustrator to render the work, pay them top dollar.
    3) submit your brilliant work to threadless
    4) in a few months, when you're filthy rich, call up the contractor you hired and invite them out on your yacht and thank them for making you a lot of fucking money.

    • If you read the post, you would know this is not about "making money"...

SteveJobs, don't you have uterine cancer or something?

  • mg330

Well, yeah, you're doing something different from a single designer that can design their own shirt and submit it and win with it.

Some of the concepts that have won there are STUPID SIMPLE. It's astounding. For one person to spend a few hours designing something that they might as well have done anyways just as artwork, AND have it win, that's $2,000 in their pocket that they can treat as throwaway money on whatever they want. Upgrade to a better DSLR, pay off some debt, buy a bunch of guitar stuff.

That's the way I always look at it though I've only submitted on thing:

I was surprised that as big as Threadless are, they just don't have the technology to do animated gif ink techniques. Plus there was the whole issue of that border being from a stock clipart book, and we'd probably get into some issues with the Macho Man's lawyers.
