Owning A Dog

Dogs are disgusting. Zero self-respect. They are insanely filthy and if you could only see the crap they leave in a house you just wouldn't. Faeces, urine, skin - all floating around in the air, getting in your clothes, in your furniture, on you.
The are also prone to eating children.
The ones they don't eat, they'll likely turn blind because of the microscopic parasitic eggs that live in their shit. And dog shit, as far as shit goes, is one of the most deadly, disgusting types of shit you can find.
There's something seriously wrong with dog owners. Don't do it.

There was a loose dog running round outside my daughters school the other week, trying to greet people, being unaware of the traffic danger it was in, so I called it over and held onto it whilst I phone the number on his collar. Later, it turned out that the 'owner' had dumped it in our town and just fucked off, but faced with either putting him in the kill-shelter, or housing him for a few days until his 'home' could be traced, I took him back to ours. Now of course he lives there and is a wonderfully loyal, stupid, friendly, house-trained family dog that has been great 'therapy' for our 2 nutso dachshunds.
- Lol, what a dumbass owner to leave the collar on it.********

- yeh, they realised they'd done that when I called. Were awfully shady. I left them alone.mikotondria3

i love my dog. i got her from the oregon humane society and she provides me with a lot of stuff, mainly comedy times and attention... all i have to do is throw a ball here and there... and make sure she goes out 2-3 times a day. i would recommend a dog to people that will make time for the dog... and get your dog from a shelter, mix breeds are stronger and live longer.

If it's crossing your mind that it wouldn't work in your apartment, don't get it.
Dogs are amazing to have around, but will also require you to spend the first 12 months "showing them who's boss" through attention/discipline/walking/etc... After that, you will have a friend who will be your non-Facebook BFF.

I've got two and I have yet to meet a person that is as much fun to be around.
I've had one for 13 years and she's never destroyed anything.
I was living in an apt. for a couple of years. During that time I got called away by work during the middle of the day and was gone for more than 24 hours. I thought there would be shit to pick up. Nope, not even a puddle of piss.I couldn't make it that long.
I'd take my dogs over any of you. Sorry.

I have two and I can't imagine life without them. Dogs truly bring joy into your life. Yes, they have the training issues and occasional days that drive you crazy, but the good far outweighs the bad.
If you're having doubts right now, don't get one. No reason for both you and the dog to end up miserable if you're not happy having it for a pet. You can always try offering to pet-sit for a friend who has a breed you're thinking of. See if you like it.

My dog is my best friend - couldn't do life without her right now. I also am a board member and volunteer of a Lab Rescue in Colorado. I spend a lot of time with canine companions coming from horrible sad situations. Definitely research the breed before you decide what you want, adopt from a rescue or a shelter (they'll spend a lot of time making sure the dog is right for your life and personality).
I agree with mayo, if you're having doubts, don't get one. Offer to be a foster family for a local shelter or rescue - that could give you time with a dog around and see if you're ready and really want one.

Mayo has it right. Dog sit someone else's dog as a try-out. We're all desperate to find someone to watch our beasts so it won't be hard. If you are worried that you are not responsible enough...you're probably not. They aren't quite like cats, who are a little more self sustaining. They do require a lot of time.

The difference between a dog and a child is that you can not beat a dog!

bunnies are about the worst pet you could possibly get... maybe monitor lizard would be worse, but only slightly.

Rabbits are terrible pets IMO. They smell to high heaven, they shit IN the house every time -- no walking -- and they are mean little fuckers.
As far as cats, I'd say probably not since you said before that you are worried about pet hair.

I would get a fish.

If you live an apartment I wouldn't get one. I think that is cruel to the dog and your neighbors.

Choosing your dog over human company is probably a prerequisite for Psychopathy. It's only a matter of time before you all start stalking shopping malls with guns. Seek help...
