I like it. I'm sure you've tried this already, and it probably looked funny, but I wonder what it would look like to have the small print right aligned with the big type, on the left side of the card just slighty to the right of where the big type in now.
- was that confusingly written enough?********
- you mean 'was that written confusingly enough?'.********
- yes********
- Totally get it, I tried it in the PDF below but am not wild about how it looks...gramme
- was that confusingly written enough?

(right side of all type at the point where the type side of the card equals a square)
- that's clear.********
- hahahakelpie
- just parse it out--it will eventually make sense and you will think how clever I am********
- I get it now, pretty clever!********
- that's clear.

it's not the fact that gotham is overused, it's the fact that it doesn't pair particularly well with your wordmark.
If you're going simple go simple, I'd try the same typeface all ranged left.
If you do stick with gotham, correct this: DESIGN ER
unless you do have a design emergency room, which sounds cool.
- pretty sure that's a jpeg/resolution issue, not in the actual piece********
- you have a kind heart rand.********
- OR ARE YOU JUST SLOPPY?********
- L********
- I'm sloppy********
- when I said kind i meant ruptured and lagged in cholesterol.********
- both, then********

- Here's to 04.********
- we'll always have 04********

Gotham is greatly overused and I don't see it as timeless at all. I see it as the font everyone used these past couple of years and feel it will become a very time specific looking type trend.
- time will tell********
- amen. great typeface, but the masses ruined it for mejimbojones
- Time is a snitch.********
- it has almost no personality, it might survive********
- JazX survived, afterall.********
- strange - I think it's fairly distinct looking and has a strong personality._salisae_
- to me it's almost generic********
- highly salisae_salisae_
- I think if I stare at even the most beautifully kerned piece of type for long enough, I will become convinced it needs more work.Jnr_Madison
- as if we've ascribed certain values to it because of its temporary ubiquity********
- like a bland nordic model********
- Chairman Mao probably had a distinct personality, yet his people were forced to remain generic.********
- Gotham = COMMUNIST INFILTRATOR!********
- They stood united, kerned a shoulder apart on the battlefields!********
- are you saying gramme is a commie?********
- gotham = trojan horse********
- gramme is a commie. metacommie.********
- got ham? Coincidence? I think not.Jnr_Madison
- LOL metacommieJnr_Madison
- Go Sam with a lisp? Queer anti government propaganda********
- jesus I'm thick. I only just this minute got what was funny about "highly salisae"kelpie
- I like Gotham, in upper case, but hate the lower case. good thing I like it in upper cos I persuaded my boss to buy it and make it our logo about 1 1/2 years agokelpie
- hai 5********
- ...and make it our logo about 1 1/2 years ago :/kelpie
- I'd say a low 7, randkelpie
- It's all about gotham narrow now, not having it, but wanting it.Jnr_Madison
- to avoid future legal battles, I establish ownership of highly salisae trademark right now********
- looking at gotham narrow, playing with it...********
- I reckon it'll disappoint, just like beer, sex, your job, your heroes and everything else you ever yearned for at one timekelpie
- I don't want to use it, just have it********
- enjoy the wanting, the reality will suck.kelpie
- I just want to have the dissapointing reality********
- but will be disappointed in the disappointment********
- you've taken melodrama to a whole new level, rand. *claps disinterestedly_salisae_
- great********

funny thing about upper vs lowercase gotham--like 2 different typefaces. Upper a plain retro signmaker quality, lower a kind of 60s retro polaroid logo quality
- funny how?Jnr_Madison
- like it fails to amuse me********
- I know I am not on form today, everyone's a critic.Jnr_Madison
- either the ascenders are too high or the x height's too low, dunno which. Looks weird.kelpie
- I thought it had a large x height********
- I'm not very observant********
- me neither, but this is the impression get looking at it, too much up top, not enough bodykelpie
- or maybe I'm thinking of Verlag actuallykelpie
- I think you are, you total dongbag********
- hahahahaJnr_Madison
- AMENmoamoa
- kelpie0
thing I don't know is, if everyone wants Gotham Narrow so much, why don't they just squeeze it a bit in illustrator, and make it narrow?
what is wrong with you people?
- I have it, I just want to want it again.Jnr_Madison
- LOL********
- I want to get sick of it again********
- admiring it ..._salisae_
- I want it to want me********
- kelpie0
yeah I'm thinking of Verlag. too tall.
anyway, my Gotham lower case hatred still stands, only now for mysterious reasons know only to me
- monospaced0
For jimobojones, who thinks A4 is an ugly proportion and that we like it because we're used to it (not in the US, by the way).
- to be fair, I like to remove a portion around the top myselfkelpie
- my opinion. it's either too tall or too wide to me, or maybe I'm sick of seeing it everywhere? Just like Gotham...jimbojones
- kelpie0
btw, sorry gramme.
I like your logotype, I'm not too sure about the layout either. hmmm.
- jimbojones0
For monospased, who confuses Golden Ratio (1:1.61) and A4 (1:1.41)
A4 is so used because you can tile an A0 sheet numerous times, and get the sheets with the same proportions, it is technically brilliant. But UGLY. Just like the font I use now to write this, Arial, will look the same on all computer, technically brilliant but UGLY.
You may like A4, you may even like Arial, and there are some scientifical prooves that Arial is the most legible typeface or something (which seems bullshit to me, people read best what they are used to) but I don't have to like it. Now GFY
- rouncey OUT********
- I don't like Arial. I was wrong about the Golden Ratio, but the ratio isn't widely considered UGLY. I can we can agree to disagree.monospaced
- disagree. Anyways, A4 is a nicer ratio than 2 x 3 1/2 (normal card), and it's nicer than Letter (8 1/2 x 11).monospaced
- Agree to diagree then ;)jimbojones
- I like Arial more than I like any other bullshit standard fonts. Except maybe Helvetica.juhls

Updated: some variations, and two different sizes. I agree with some that it's best just to use Mercury only for the purposes of my stationery, but I still maintain that Gotham 1. pairs well with Mercury and 2. is a timeless and well-drawn face, despite its current ubiquity, which means it will have a very long shelf life.
So. Anyone have a favorite?

P.S.—the benefit of the one-sided cards is that they would be engraved, both on the logo and the contact info. If I do two-sided, only one side can be engraved. The other side has to be litho, which yields a less-shiny silver. This would make my business card a bit of a departure from the system, since my letterhead prints one side only.
- ...l'head engraves one side only, rather. No litho.gramme
- tank020
One sided one, always look better with engraving.
- VectorMasked0
the 2nd one is better.
I still prefer gotham actually. It's got more life. Some designers might be bored of it, but the average folk will see any serif as a free PC version of times new roman.
- moamoa0
I would go for the 2 sided version with hot foil stamping.
I am not so keen about Mercury in Upper case...
I prefer a classic business card format.much better then the mercury/gotham mix.
- 2sided...hmmmmtank02
- hehe well it a taste thing.. I never did a onesided bc... I like the spacemoamoa
- moa, I'd agree usually, but there's so little info there, I've got gallons of space hanging around :)gramme
- I understand, i did one 'one sided ' one, looks classy if you a just have small amount of info.tank02
- but where is the url? ;)moamoa
- gramme already said what i wanted to say. Its like buying 2 porsches targa for 1 person ;)tank02
- fuck url's, thats so 2008 ;)tank02
- ohhh I lied I did that CORC bc from my website onesided ;(moamoa
- IT'S IN THE FREEKIN EMAIL ADDRESS, MORANSgramme

- clients are stupid...moamoa
- I bet somone will ask for you url.moamoa
- I always aim high...gramme
- hheheh ;)moamoa
- tank020
You have a point Vector. But a designer makes their own card out of pure vanity and actually for themselves.
Thats why a lot of designers have so much trouble of making their own id. The bar is placed as high.
- gramme0
Already sold on engraving, it's more detailed than foil. Just looking for layout input.
- more detailed? hmmmmoamoa
- My experience at least, letters are crisper when engraved than when foil stamped.gramme
- In fact, I find engraving to be the most crisp form of printing, hands down.gramme
- I think it depends on the printer... I did some hot.foil stamping with Garamond 7pt and it was sharpmoamoa
- 7point? shit my printers are already complaining at 9...ugh i hate Belgium! land of mediocricy...tank02
- one of the best in the world ;)

the card grids are way better this time gramme. really coming along. I like the 2 sided card personally or the layout on page 4 in the first 1st pdf. nice job and good luck with the interview.
- gramme0
Yeah, I'm kinda leaning toward that one too...
