I saw this last night on DVD.
It's ok, its not great, but its not bad either. It was a good story, good acting, but..I have 2 problems with it.
1) Who in their right mind will turn down a lap dance from marisa tomei? are those people insane? did you see that body? man.. SHE MADE THE MOVIE... wow.. I wanted to punch those people in the face.. If you want to portray an aging stripper that is loosing appeal on customers, you should not use marisa tomei.
2) They never address how the wrestling guy got his face looking like a male version of joan rivers.. The entire time I was watching mickey roorke I was thinking of dog the bounty hunter

Reminded me back when I was younger watching WWF, the Junkyard Dog, Hulk Hogan, Jimmy Superfly Snuka, etc etc. I thought that shit was real for soooo many years.

when i was four i had a hulk hogan exercise set that had a jumprope, hand squeezy things, and a shirt you could tear off over and over

anyway, i saw this movie a few weeks ago and thought it was great.

I didn't really feel like that mattered, you don't the particulars of that story. Just the look of his face and hair tells the story well enough.
I really like how she ultimately rejects her stripper name and goes by her own name, and then he rejects the name Randy by only responding tot he name "Ram" at the end. Nice bit.

I thought it was a really good film... I actually watched a interesting movie the other night TCM.. Requiem for a fighter.. mickey rooney,jackey gleason.. 1960's.. interesting movie.. seemed very similar to The wrestler.. about a old and tired fighter that has to quit but cannot find work .. in the end he becomes a wrestler.. very similar film.
