I'm considering a job/move to New York and was wondering roughly how much you need to earn a month to live comfortably there? I'm thinking east village or williamsburg areas....
Any thoughts?

I know some people who live there, and they definitely do not make 100K.
- So it does depend on various factors, like the area, and, as morilla said, what your definition of "comfortable" is.Jaline

don't live in les or willyb then. those places are way overpriced.
- The LES East of Essex Street is a barren wasteland but almost as cheap as Brooklyn. You're close to the cool parts of the LES, but far from subways and life.CyBrain

Fine. You can find a decent room in Brooklyn for $1000/month. But this means you'll need to pull in over $3000/month after taxes. Salary would have to approach 60K/year. That's being honest.
- thanks for a reasonable response.davidwrites
- and a 400sq ft. place.********
- In Brooklyn, you can get a 400sq ft bedroom for that price, easy.monospaced
