Public Accreditation for Graphic Design.

Is this a viable option in this changing economy? The public are continually being ripped off my overcharging, under performing studios, churning out broken design that offers nothing for the community.
Example —
$15,000 for a logo that fails to capture any part of the motels history, surrounding or charm. Is it simply that the public doesn't understand what exactly Graphic Design is and what it can offer when executed properly? Or is it a lack of resource, should there be a central calling point that people can access advising them on Graphic Design and what it can do for them?

I would've produced something just as shitty for half the cost.

I'm not in favor of accreditation
- Q010
Why not? Shouldn't a degree or similar qualification be enough? Although many still leave education with still not enough knowledge due to underperforming courses.
- ********0
I'm for it. Jack up prices.
- Q010
Studios should up there pricing? We can't afford it right now.
- ********0
I'm not for it because I'm self taught and think I'm better and more knowledgeable than many who are not

It's silly. What's it prove really?

The same idiots that got through school not understanding anything will get through the accreditation not understanding anything. I doubt it would achieve much.

the next thing you know you'll be bitching about who's in charge of making the decision if someone get's accreditation or not...
... then it'll get all political...
... then it'll then come down to 'who can afford the licensing fee'.

Its so easy to sit down in front of a camera and start talking about how everything that was not produced by you sucks metallic balls.
Pricing has nothing to do with talent, is just plain business, who ever convinced a client to pay 15 grand for a logo is a better business man than anyone charging $800 to $1500 as simple as that.
did the client liked the job? then mission accomplished, move on to the next project. Even if every single designer designed for designers instead of having the client or the target audience in mind, it would probably be as easy to sit down in front of a camera and talk about how everyone else's work lacks of communicating to the masses that might not know (or pay attention) to details designers do.
In the end, as much as we back our work with a strong concepts, there is always going to be someone that won't get it, even if you designed it perfectly, you can't please everyone period.
I think its a more positive thing to find about what designers are doing to push the envelope, compostable or multiple use packaging, how can you design products that avoid landfills etc.
- i agree its all about buttfucking, i mean being a great salesmen, would Rand get away with so much if he wasntattentionspan
- the better businessman is the one that runs a long term successful business. not fucking one client over.itsmitch

Why don't you come and see our pitch for your new product?
Thinking how its summer and all, why don't you meet us at the 4 seasons hotel in st tropez, in fact why don't you bring your family with you? it will only take a week of your time. All expenses paid on us.Client: Well, the other agency told me to meet them that same week, here in east Los Angeles, but.. hey..Sure we'll go check it out. I will tell my secretary to cancel the other meeting.
