Has anyone else done this?
When I go to migrate, there is a prorated charge listed. What is this?
The time used prior to migrating is already taken from the credit. Why is there another charge?
- brandelec0
done it, no price change for me.. they grandfather'd the rate as gs light
- horton0
no price change here.
infact, i think i'm still getting that lifetime promo rate they advertised on NT, many moons ago.

Yeah. I still pay the same old low rate. I would be pissed if they tried to pass any folderol on.
Call them up and ask "what the hell?" then report back here with the answer. Because in the meantime we'll be concerned. Don't let them give you any guff!

Yeah, I'm on the NT rate too.
I was billed on the 18th for two years at $95.40. Today is the 29th, so that's 11 days of service (11/730 = 1.5%). 1.5% from $95.40 is $93.96, which is listed as the credit... perfect. Everything seems to add up.
However, there is a prorated charge of $5.38 under it... that's what I don't understand.

Ok, just thought I'd post a PSA about this.
After an email exchange beginning last Thursday, I just got off the phone with someone named Ryan.
As I suspected, I'm getting screwed (to the tune of only a few dollars mind you, but it's the principle, blah, blah, blah...). Ryan told me that the discounted NT rate does not carry over to Grid-Service Lite and that I was "lucky" to still be getting discount when I try to migrate. Whatever.
I asked what would happen if, or when, everything is migrated over to (gs) on their end, and he said that I'd have to pay the regular rate for (gs) lite of $100. Perhaps I just have a shitty memory, but wasn't it posted that the NT discount would be for the life of your service? I guess that just clever business/legal talk.
Anyway, the whole conversation just irritated me. He kept saying what a good deal I was getting, how lucky I was to get the 50% rate, and that I should just pay the few bucks and not make a big fuss about it. Now, maybe I'm just living in a bubble, but if they knew I was getting a "better" deal than advertised, wouldn't they fix things on their end? I think it is obvious that I'm getting the exact rate that I should be getting, and they simply don't want to fix their little math error... err, profit scheme.
Some customer service... @$%&!
So, just to clarify - if you migrated to the (gs) on any day other than your billing cycle date, MT incorrectly, or rather wrongly, calculated the pro-rated charge based on a yearly rate of $100, rather than the NT 50% rate. Like I said earlier, it's only a few bucks, and not a glaring error, and perhaps why many of you may felt that things went smoothly... but I'm pretty confident that you all got screwed out of a few dollars, too.
I know I'm probably a pest arguing over such a petty sum, but it's a shitty business practice no matter how much I try to reason with myself.

This looks like its going to be interesting: http://mediatemple.net/labs/cs/
The Project Progress bar has gone up a lot over the past month :)

i migrated my ss account ages ago to grid service. i don't get any sort of discount, i guess i'm not special. i have to say though, that grid really kinda blows. it's down a lot. if it were my primary server, i'd probably be kinda upset and probably not with them any longer. i'll probably let my account run out on it and move that domain elsewhere.
i also have a dv account, and must say that it is the best hosting i've ever had. sooo fast. it's also a lot more expensive, but i just put a couple clients on it and i bill them for it all.

The only reason I'm with them is the NT discount. At this point, though, I'd gladly pay a little more to be with someone that is competent. I paid for the next two years just last month, however, and I'm not confident that they will credit me properly. Has anyone else canceled recently?
I might try calling up another day this week and seeing if I can speak to someone who actually gives a damn about customer service. Otherwise, their reluctance to credit me a couple of dollars is going to cost them exponentially more than that.
