Which is better?

Well ones free and the other isn't. But if money is not a problem I always liked Magento.

Wouldn't Interspire be the one to choose if money isn't a problem... seeing as Magneto is free?...

Make sure you've got a powerful server if you're going to run Magneto, it's a dog on slower servers.

BUMP.
anybody been working with these recently? what were your experiences? did your clients like the admin? problems etc?
- airey0
it depends on the scale of your shitmeter.

My experience with Magento was that it's really difficult to do more than minor cosmetic changes. Also, what Jamble said, don't even think about it unless you've got some dedicated hardware.

I've got a pretty big shit meter after working with x-cart for 4 years. I had to add a shit meter extension, on a cloudy day you can't see the top.

opencart: http://www.opencart.com or ubercart are both pretty good
magento is very robust but it's slow. we had it running on a pretty powerful local test server and it was rediculous how long some things were taking to load
opencart is cool...similar framework to codeigniter. it's pretty easy to work with
ubercart is great, but you've got to know drupal which has a pretty steep learning curve

screw drupal...
Anyone here used opencart or ubercart recently? I'm mostly wanting to know how we can import/export inventory without endless hours of hand-tweeking....
- I've used ubercart - it's decent .. but it's drupal-based, so maybe not for you?********

Magento is a very powerful shopping cart - currently my favourite, agreed it's slow on some servers, but on the dedicated server running the recomended software and tweaks it runs lightning fast, I'd recommend it to anyone, skinning it is a nightmare, but for usability etc it's the best, and always being upgraded.
- yeah, but development is tied to the schedule of a commercial company.********
- I've heard horror stories of the devs ignoring support requests for months.********
- Best go open-source, imo.********
