Has anyone any interest in this, either from a spectator or a competitor standpoint? Seems like a cool idea: a design battle in 2D, 3D and motion design flavors. prizes aren't to shabby either

Been to one. Seems like a photoshop circle jerk.

I don´t know, 15 minutes for a piece, with any luck you can produce a good laugh in that time, but nothing of significance from a design standpoint. So visiting, I don´t think so.
If they paid really really really good money (upfront), I´d take part I guess. It´s interesting to see though, how they hype The Designer as some kind of popstar, like this HP/MTV show from a while back did. I get it from Adobe´s POV, selling them suites, but I don´t see the mass appeal really.

One of my friends won this a couple years ago.

i participated in the first one in LA, i figured i could blow out the competition no problem, and to my surprise lost in the first round! my advice is to not take it too seriously. nothing even with a weeks worth of time can be made of any significance in 15 minutes.

how´s the judging done, by jury or audience or 50/50?

Its fun its an event worth drinking at once and chilling out meeting new talent. The whole point is to recruit new talent but in an economy where everyone's jobless it seems pointless lol

I'm signed up to do it this year in Portland.
