same here - i've been using textpattern for the last few sites, but i feel like there isn't a large amount of features for uploads and updates by the client. I have always wanted to try EE but lack of budget has prohibited me for selling the idea to clients, so i've been hesitant to even test it building a demo site.

yeah, i'd like to just pick something and focus on that as well. preferably something i can easily add commerce to. i did a couple things with magento and that was a bit of a nightmare. i have enough joomla experience to know i will never touch it again. what are the other contenders? mod-x?

By far the most flexible and solid cms I've ever used. You can fit EE around your design and not vice versa like with some free systems like Drupal or Joomla. Highly recommended. (and they have a 2.0 coming soon).

You know, ay back in the day when Ifirst started working on a website that needed a cms, I used pMachine Pro, which was the
predecessor of EE, which, from a frontend designers perspective was a dream to work with compared to Wordpress (damn multiple template shit) and Txtpattern (whackadoodle naming system and structure) at the time.. I hated the changes they made when they turned it into EE. The ltest version of EE is better, but still for some tings the old pMacine Pro software was great. You can still download it if anyone is interested in giving it a walk around the proverbial block. There's still an active user base for it here (and download link):- Plus it's free...TheBlueOne

I'd like to hear your thoughts on it once you're done mucking about with it. It seems to me there is more support (forums/tutorials) for WP

Don't bother with Expression Engine. It's like surfing YH
Wordpress is free, have tons of plugin's and the CMS in 2.7 is very nice.
