My Nana and brother are over the top worriers. To the point it's comical, which I'm sure is your case too (comical in my eyes, haha).
I think growing up and just being alarmed at the things that were going on in their minds BEFORE I'd go out to go play in traffic, or see how high of a roof I could jump off, just made me realize people are just different.
Worrying isn't necessarily a bad thing, unless it's affecting your daily life. My brother would stay up all nite sometimes because he'd think someone might break in, and he'd have to be there to stop it. Like that kind of stuff just makes me lose it then, and to this day, haha.

@epikore: they're on a whole different type of med. xnx and valium are benzodiazapams, you're talking about anti depressants (ssri's) or adhd meds like ritlin or aderal. No risk of that kind of psychotic behavior w/ benzo's

a chemical imbalance is not attributed to upbringing, education, or ignorance. Now that is not to say that there are cases in which those have led to depression, or were attributed to drug use that may have afflicted them to dependancy on drugs to "feel" normal again.
But chemical imbalances in the brain and anxiety is real.. and usually hereditary in some instances
- i think education, upbringing and ignorance def. lead to school shootings. not drugs, music, tv or video games.********

My friend started taking these medications and when I saw him after 10 years, he seemed to have gained weight.

threadpost.. you only have to worry about the sucidal effects of SSRI's if you are 14-18. They even have that printed on the labels. When you are an adult, the chances are incredibly slim.

dispensing useless advice is great for anxiety

MY MOTHER.

I've suffered through periods of great anxiety in the past, and eventually took heart in the fact that "the only around it is through it." In other words, living with it and not trying to escape it eventually seems to normalize the cascade effect that comes with trying to run from something that can't be run from

I worry quite a bit, I get it from my mom. it's not the worrying so much that's annoying, it's the rumination of a particular worry - the constant over and over and over cycle of analyzing all the little aspects of something you are worrying about.
I feel like I have this sixth sense to determine when things aren't right - at work, relationship, friends, band - and at the first sign of anything seeming off, my worry gears get going.
My mom is 20x worse than me. I understand it because I'm her only child since my sister passed away 13 years ago, but it's like she prevents herself from getting excited about certain things because she instantly shifts to worry mode.
Ex: When I told her in 2006 that I bought my ticket to Tokyo to visit a friend, I figured she'd be 'Wow! You're going to have such an amazing time! You're so lucky you have someone to stay with there, this is going to be so neat for you."
Instead, she got really quiet and just goes, "Well, you do have a passport already." and then asks, "Do you need to get any special kind of shots to go there?"
That was it. That was the extent of her excitement for me. I tease her about it all the time now because we've since talked about how consumed she is with worry, but I always get the "I'm your mom, It's my job to worry" line, to which I reply "I'm a grown adult, I think I know how to handle myself."

what about if you hear voices in your head constantly?

I worry too much about things I really shouldn't care about.
I worry sometimes that I worry too much, and really, it worries me that someday all this worrying will wholeheartedly wear my worrisome self down.

This may sound weird, but try to get a little more vitamin D in your diet. It calms you down. I had an endocrinologist who told me to take these really strong vitamin D pills because of the stress I was under. I could only take a quarter of the dosage unless I wanted to be totally knocked out. Maybe vitamin D will calm you enough to not worry so much.
