I was with someone for 2 and a half years and broke up with her because she wanted to get married and wasn't the one. I felt so guilty, but this thread makes me feel better meaning that this isn't that uncommon.
I think women are wising up these days from preventing these types of situations by avoiding guys who are unsure. I'm guessing it's from the magazines or online articles such as "How to tell if he'll leave you hanging"Just a theory

yo wordsinyourmouth, seeing that you gave me some sound advice in my relationship thread i'll 'throw down'. it sounds like you have been thinking about this for a while and you made the right decision. at least you took the time to commit yourself to finding out if she was/is the "one". it takes a lot of courage to commit yourself to a relationship let alone committing yourself to a life together. also, you never know what the future holds; many people break up and get back together later in life. be calm, chill out and good luck to you man.

you can't feel guilty, its not "wasted time". every relationship you have with anyone, romantic or not, teaches you something about yourself. the best thing you can do is not lie to your gf/bf. my gf and i have had a hard time since moving in together, but we have kept the lines of communication open. an adult should be mature enough to understand that sometimes things don't work, but at least you tried.
