Also, network. Meet people at design events and talk to them. Cold call or email. Contact recruiters.
If all you're doing is reading message boards (a week before Christmas, no less), you're doing something wrong.

The question is if there are jobs for Jrs or not, its more to do with, are you good at what you do?
Answer is, you are alright but not great, and alright in hard times do not get you a paying job.

Well, let's think about what's holding you back...
1. Bad, no make that horrible, economy
2. NY economy even wore than most
3. Wrong time of year
4. It's always tough to get a job right out of school
5. Harder to find work in print (vs interactive)
6. Your portfolio isn't exactly blowing me awayNow since you don't have control over the first 5, I would focus on the last one and get cranking;-)

DON'T EVEN BOTHER, Unless you have your parent's money to hold you out while you look... which could take at least 6 months to find something decent. And even then, you probably wont, unless the pay is really low. Sorry, but its reality at the moment. Good luck! (Especially for Print) Oh yah, you have to be at the top of your class to find something, so not sucking is crucial.

you probably have to go freelance, even if you don't want to. thats what i had to do (graduate '01).
network, network. as much as you can.
good luck.

Go overseas, Europe's economy is still strong, and young designers are needed everywhere. Even if you can't get a job rightaway, just check out an internship (for4-6 months) at one of the bigger agencies (TBWA, DDB, PUBLICIS, BBDO, etc...), after that you have some experience, a network, and some new friends. That will help you out. It worked for me, so it could work for anyway, right?

I was looking for a junior print role and have ended up starting in digital. More opportunities for the future + better pay IMO. Not entirely what I wanted to do but its better than sitting on my ass re-doing my portfolio to no avail.
But yeh, UK is dead in the water for junior roles at the minute from my experience. An agency up the road from us just halved their staff.....
Consider digital.... as the guys on here suggested to me a month or so back.

A great way to get your foot in the door is freelancing.
You're just out of school so don't worry about finding a headhunter,
just apply to all the creative temp agencies you can find.Access Staffing, TTS, Aquent etc...
Get in, do a great job, and when a place is looking for a new hire they won't need to look far, cause there you are.

I can relate. I am graduating this May but i have been freelancing for a year now and my teachers have actually suggested to my class going to graduate school might be another option. ah... i am worried.
