Ugh... NYC Sucks for design jobs right now, especially print. It's only good for hanging out and food. The freelance rates aren't good at all ($20-30/hr at best) and if they are hiring full-time it's usually for a salary on the cheap. (40's if you're even that lucky and that's before taxes.) Most of my experienced friends have taken jobs doing stupid shit just to survive, lame. If your parents are giving you money, then that's a different story. I miss NYC sometimes, everyone should try it at least a year or two if they can. But there are a lot of places out there that are cool.
- i think this lower rate etc.. apply pretty much around u.s.akrok
- but yes, 20 or 30 dollars per hours in NYC sucks.akrok
- i have no problems getting for $85 and per hour - NYC you may need to start asking for more..e-pill
- yeh. i get 75-100/hr depending on the job/agency.dirtydesign

Stay in school and get your master degree, there will not be any immediate job openings for recent graduates for at least 3-5 years.
Good luck:)

i dunno, i was on that boat too.. just freelance and make connections.
and money isnt everything and as long as you can pay for rent.. i would recommend taking any design job cause you never know who you can meet.

Work in a bar and do your own shit on the side. Trust me, dont waste the freedom of designing whatever you like too early.

This really is a trying year for most designer's. My prediction is alot will jump out of this field because it's too painful. Best of luck to you all.

All the Debbie Downers step aside_
The reality is you get what you put into it. Economic hardship is being felt all over. Bust your ass harder.
Creative minds come up with creative ways of working through such difficulties.
Jumping boat is not a option for the most of us. The worlds in our mind wouldn't allow it.
