This is for a friend; it's a product he developed - working title is 'Racquet Armor'.
It's like head-tape for the top of your racquet but more substantial, more durable and more protective.
here are the logo samples I have so far, please give me your thoughts; focusing on the iconography and not on the logotype(although that probably IS the typeface we'll use)
Thanks.

go more viking helmet bad ass

7/9 of these look like the same direction. I like the middle bottom only because it would work well small and in 1 color.

they really don't say racquet armor to me

thanks for the input so far...fyi the arrow on top is supposed to be a literal representation of the product...

maybe explore some directions that are not a direct reference to the product. what if the product changes design/function, company expands etc.
i would think there are lots of interesting visual to explore with shields, knights, armour and the letters RA.

@epete:
re:spelling - yeah that's tricky, it's the way it's spelled! 'racket' is incorrect...that's going to be a doozy for the webs...re:string pattern - they were removed in the name of abstraction...i haven't even tried any with it...thanks for the idea...

Nope.
Take it from an ex junior player and serious player with about 20 yrs of experience. ;o) They don't feel like they are for tennis. As a player it would not catch my attention. And since they look a bit like that's about table tennis, I wouldn't take it seriously. My inclination would be towards the second one from top to bottom — right column. Play with that and with only 1 shape for the tape. Possibly play with the type and incorporating the racket in possibly the letter "o". Like something strong enough to be used as a separate element.
Also it reminds me more of a dampener than tape
it also reminds me a lot of "head"
