Looking for some advice on which open source CMS to use for a new website. Its a pretty simple site but I want the content to be easily manigable for the client with a micro-blog on the home page, also want to integrate flash elements.
Started designing with with wordpress but think having individual styled pages will become a problem. Maybe Joomla? If anyone has any preferences and reasons would be glad to hear them.. Cheers

There are ton's of CMS options, but what you need is a CMS that has a good forum behind it so if you ever run into any problems you can always get support.
Never used Joomla but a mate of mine uses it for all his projects and says it's fantastic. I have used http://www.modxcms.com/ for some projects in the past.
Have a look at http://www.opensourcecms.com/ and test drive the different CMS to see what fits your needs.

If you want the content easily manageable, do not use Joomla.

fyi Expression Engine isn't really open source... but has one of the best templating systems.

Can a Commercial License for Expression Engine be rolled out more than once, or is it a per-install cost?
I don't so much mean 'am I allowed to?', more 'could I do it sneakily?'.
- (I have around 4 websites to do in the near future - 3 for me, 1 for a client - I don't want to pay full whack for my sites)Nairn
- ..and yes, I see that 'multiple site manager' add-on, but my belt is tight and I have Scottish blood in my veins.Nairn
- It's per license:
http://expressioneng…OhYeah - Not sure if they can monitor how many installs you do?OhYeah
- Ah, I was looking for that page. But yeah, that's exactly what I'm wondering - are there any Ellislab-hosted elements?Nairn

Wordpress done right can be rock solid.

I am a fan of wordpress and think it has one of the simplest and best designed backends (for unexperienced users) out there ,but this is also a case of wanting to try something new ... Think I am gonna go with MODx .. Anyone know what the support forums is like?

I've just built my first few sites with EE -- as it turned out I've had to build 3 at the same time. I had done some basic stuff with Wordpress in the past. Once I got my head around the relationship between elements, EE was very straightforward to use, template, and implement on all sites. I think Wordpress is great but EE allowed the freedom I needed. In fact one of the clients came to us looking for a wordpress site and we had to persuade them to go down the EE route.
There were some issues I had with elements that I would have expected to be built-in, such as a client-side rich text editor, but all in all it was good value for money.

first, joomla. no.
"having individual styled pages will become a problem"
do you mean you want a different template with each section? this is easy with wp.
i've installed and modded all of them, wordpress is my preference these days.
