I'm having some serious, head shaking LOL action at the comments on appleinsider about the new LED cinema displays.
"They look real nice, but unfortunately I will never purchase one... no firewire and the glossy screen absolutely kills it for most people doing graphics work."
"Well to be honest I have a white MacBook and I don't understand why you would want an extra monitor for it, really. Ok if you lap's screen is dead THEN ok. I understand that you can use one screen for programs and the other for something else but still if your lap's screen works why bother. I just hope they will come out with NORMAL connections to be used on Mac Pro!!!!"
In regard to the first quote, it wasn't too long ago that pretty much all designers swore by glossy CRT's for their more accurate color representation. Now, what, 5 years later non-glossy LCD's are such the standard that what used to be perfect is no longer perfect but horrible?
Also, according to someone on the site, their displays never even came with Firewire in the first place.
Also, the quote from someone with a 13" Macbook about why he would ever need a larger screen - only if his laptop screen died - is just flat-out hilarious.

We've been using matte or near-matte screens for fifteen years. LaCie Electrons were always coated with an anti-glare coating.
- I dont ever remember having a shine on any monitor, but the color preference was regarding the tubes not the glossMeeklo

Can they just start shipping these fuckers? I ordered them when they became available on 11/18... and it read "shipping in 7-10 days" then. If I go check my order status now, it still says "shipping in 7-10 days".
Bastards.- they are walking it over to your house. give it time!lvl_13

I like this exchange on the message board:

Myth. Stop repeating it.
Are CRTs then also unsuitable for graphics work? Because both use pure glass. In fact, for me this is preferable over the grainy antiglare coating as found in pretty much every other high end IPS display, including the previous 23" ACD.

Double Myth Glossy screen from apple has an intense reflection, it has nothing to do with CRT monitors, NOTHING.
I have it right here in front of me and I can see the difference. Also, some people actually the game you get to play by moving around so your face doesn't show up on the screen while you work, so by saying "all designers don't like it" he is also lying.

who the fork (yes the utensil) can work on only one screen? I gots two and wish i had three. Its like having the option of an extra penis; and who wouldn't want that?

I've just got one of the new 15in MBPs, and a 23in original ACD. I'd love to have one of the new glossy cinema displays. I really can't see what everyone is whinging about.
Plus the glossy screen helps zing the colours out - which makes a huge difference when you show a client. They really dig that 'wow' factor.

the best thing about the display is:
you cant connect it to your old macbook or macbook pro.i have a black macbook and i am looking for a new display. so apple suggests that i buy a monitor from another brand... ok i go for it...
that is really a big joke...
- they want you to buy a new laptop not another screen!MakeBelieve

The glossy is for the iSight, so you can see yourself while having a video chat.

What they really mean is:
"I cannot afford this product, but rather than admit that I will just belittle it."

Theres a rumour that Apple will release a new range of Cinema Displays and this is just a consumer item, in the new year. Is it a lie?
