Which would you get? I need a camera my wife can use (she is a happy with a p&s) that is also a camera I can learn on. There is about a $100 dollar difference between the two. Is it worth it to go to the d60?

Why cant ppl actually tell you which one to get for???!!!
I would say D60.
All depends on yr budget. D80 is discontinued in the UK.
As PandS in Nikon you could go for the P6000....up to you hope that helps.

If budget wasn't a concern I would go top of the line. But d60 is pushing my budget for a camera. I'm leaning toward d60 but not knowing how serious I'll get keeps me thinking d40.

I got a d40 a few weeks b4 the d60 release, does the d60 support video or is that the d80, that woulda been a heck of a bonus, considering the quality of video

only the D90 supports video.

I'm thinking about buying the D60 soon as well. Figure it makes more sense to get the lower priced body in comparison to the D80 and go for a better lense.
make sure you search "buy nikon d60" on google; there are better prices than Best Buy and you get a ton of free stuff with most stores' offers: case, memory card, tripod, cleaning kit, etc.
- It was the "cyber monday" sale with free shipping. I haven't found any deals much better. know any?voiceof

voiceof,

Check some of the stores and their specific packages.
In a previous thread about cameras here, it was suggested that going with the D60 and a much better lense than the stock package was a good idea - I want a lense that will shoot well indoors in very low light - as it was pointed out that all comes down to the lense and less the camera. The D80 and D60 are practically the same camera if I'm correct, the D60 is newer as well. For me, who will be moving up from a Panasonic Lumix 10x optical 6 megapixel point and shoot (that I love and will continue to use) it will be a huge improvement.
Check this one for example - http://www.butterflyphoto.com/pr…

I have a d60 and I love it. It's all about the glass. The camera can take very acceptable photographs...

There are some differences between the D80 and D60 that you'll notice when you put the bodies side by side but they are pretty similar. I went with the D60 and the 16-85 VR lens and I'm pretty happy.

I took the D60 with me to the UK. You can view the results here: http://flickr.com/photos/ninjasa…
