charge for a small building firm placing a full page advert. The houses they build are pretty bespoke, ranging from £300,000 - £650,000 each.
Would you charge an hourly fee or go the 'this is the fixed fee we charge for...' route?

£200 is what I'm thinking of charging them for a full days work, laying out the advert. They also needed the advert sent to another publication reduced to A4 from tabloid. reasonable enough?

Feels low to me but I don't know your rates and the actual work effort. Again, if you need to do any substantial work in PS or any illustration or so, then it could take longer etc, etc.
If it's truly just putting together the advert at one size, gaining approval, sending it out, resizing and sending it out again then that may be fair. Just make sure you leave yourself room for revisions and going back and forth with the publication, etc.
