currently on week 3 without a smoke.
how I did it:
-got a cold
-used a nicotine patch for 3 days (7mg)
-hasn't been too bad since.I did the same thing last year (though longer on the patch and no cold... this time I knew what to expect) but I gave in to the "oh one won't hurt, I'm a social smoker" trap. I was back smoking in no time.
advice to take from this: once you kick the habit, don't let yourself start again.

I tried to quit ages ago but I was just to tense and angry all the time, I only smoke 5 a day but I turn into the HULK if I don't get my fix... You could try patches and gum, but one word of advice don't smoke while wearing the patches!

Read this book

Ask your doctor for Champix.
Avoid triggers - coffee, beer, postprandial situations (The thoughest, cause you need to eat), etcGood luck

fuck that. just stop. and avoid triggers be fucked. i went on a week long bender to prove to myself that i wanted to quit smoking, not my life.
you can't spend your life hiding from cigarettes. quit them and modify your life at the start if you have to but eventually you have to go back to that life without smokes.
or keep smoking.

I keep trying but nada...
I only smoke like 4-5 a day, but still can't kick those....
I think if I dont drink, then I wont smoke, but whats odd is that I dont smoke at home or at night or at the weekend, but I can't not have a morning coffee without a fag...
- 4-5 is probably better for you than the 80 coffees a day i have. enjoy moderation i say.airey

I'm on day 10, first 3 are the hardest.
If I get cravings I just think of a lady I used to work with who's throat audibly crackled every time she spoke due a life time of smoking, it was rank & enough to keep the cravings at bay.

I decided to give up a few years ago, I loved smoking and got through as many cigarettes as I had in the pack each day. I was lucky enough to use will power alone. I did however find it a little weird for the first couple of weeks, but after that it was easy peasy :)

I did it after 10 years!! Trust me it's not as hard as it may seem!!
Rule #1: The Build-up.
Set a date.. give yourself a while to smoke your lungs into oblivion. Tell your mates. Ney years is a good excuse, maybe. But tell EVERYONE!! ask them to stop you etc. Keep going on about it like it's a massive event (which it is.. cos its scary) That way when it comes, it's for real.Which leads to rule #2: Belive it's for real. If you have this "hmm i'd better not" every time temptation comes along, you're screwed. You need to have more of a "no frakkin way" attitude. Think of it as unprotected sex with a central african prostitute.
Rule #3: Wait.
The cravings go away. Your brain tells you that you'll feel like this until you have one to trick you. for the first while, especially with a drink or 2, you will feel like one every 10 minutes.. for about 3 minutes. Just keep telling yourself "just hang on for 3 mins" cos thats all you gotta do. After a few weeks thay're more like one every few hours, and you're so used to telling your brain to naff off it gets really easy
oh and one more.. just keep reminding yourself that one day, soon, you'll have complete control of your own life.. thoughts!!!! Your brain will no longer lie to you. It's fukkn awesome!!!
Ba da bing

i did so cold turkey. the thought of possibly dying because of it and looking like a dork was too much, the desire faded.
and all those anti-smoking commercials are so damn convincing. hahahaha...

I quit cold turkey. Found out a friend of mine had cancer, and I quit the same day. Trashed my brand new pack of cigarette, and never smoked one ever since. It was 11 years ago!

I quit 8 years ago now. It is not easy, but once you have broken the habit which is the hardest thing to do, and not the addiction which most people think is the real problem, you will fill allot better for it.
But you really have to want to stop smoking, don't go in half hearted.
