hi,
doing a small websiet for a photographer.
he's got no brains for 'puters, so i want a simple
backend for him and a sleek frontend coded by yours truly..it'd involve thumbnails and photos in about 3 categories..
any leads to some simple, straightforward cms would be appreciated.

You know, Janne, you can use Flickr's API to integrate into your own front-end. So if all you need is thumbnails and images then that might be the way to go....
That way your photog can use a Flickr account to categorise and add metadata to their photos (which you can also call from your site). Easy-peasy.- yeah, bin thinkin' about it. not sure if the photographer's willing to pay 25$ annually for the pro acct.janne76
- For serious? That's like three rolls of film.
;)pylon - he shoots digital only, he's a press-photographer hehe..janne76
- fuck him thenhallelujah
- Yea seriously...flavorful
- Fuck..I pay $25 for shits and giggles and this guy's a pro? Run away from this projectTheBlueOne
- I piss $25 Buy it for him the first year.. then just ask for $25 more for your fee.inhaler97

I knocked up a quick site for a friend using gallery2. He loves it and only took me an hour to setup and skin for him.

Not the prettiest thing in the world but he needed it asap.

do those flickr api's always show the flickr logo? is it mandatory anyway?
- pylon0
No no.
All you're using Flickr for is to house and serve the imagery. Your site will make a call across the internetz to Flickr and get the thumbs, images, and any associated metadata served.

so you could make like each section belong to a set?
let's say i have 3 sections on the website, all the photographer has to do is add to 3 sets?
- pylon0
Exactly!

www.zenphoto.org is nice and free and it's what i use for some shit. easy to customize and build around.

there are a few more "photocentric" wordpress themes that you could tweak the css to do whatever it is you want. just use the photo div, place it wherever you like and design the site around it with helvetica, like mike g. :D

seriously though, wordpress is where it is at for user-friendliness on the back end. I got lawyers that are bloggers now, that before kept saying how "computer-illiterate" they were. As if the term "computer literate" has been used since matthew broderick was in wargames.

A. if your client doesnt have 25 bucks for a pro account, i'd hate to see how much you are getting paid.
B. If you decide to go with flickr, try http://flickrhelpr.com
It is a pretty easy way to implement flickr on a site- it's super simple! ;)ok_not_ok

Charge him locally €75/year and handle the abroad payment.
