Which one to go for? Canon eos 400d or 1000d.
1000d seems to have more features at a lower price, but heard bad reviews.
or should i go all out and get the 450D??
Thanks

Go Hog wild and grab the Eos 5d Mark II
- samb0
yeah thats a little out of my price range!!
the 450d is about as far as i can stretch but wondered as a beginner whether i needeed something that advanced or whether the 400d or 450d would do the job?

you should always get a new credit card for these sort of purchases, that way you can wack £5000 in one go and get everything you need in one day.

I would go 450 over 1000D.
If you could stretch to a 40D then you would be miles ahead though. Should be some cheap ones around now the 50D is everywhere.
At the end of the day though its about lenses and lighting.

I just saw a 20D for €250 with 6 months warranty in a shop downstairs.
- buy itforcetwelve
- Just checked it out, shot a few images.. Hotshoe is loose, no eyepiece. ISO 400 noisy as hell! 5D did spoil me.rafalski

buy what fits you.
i went from a 20d to 1d and now am going back to a 40d (used). im not wasting money on digital gear, its still too new.

In my Opinion...
450d (XSi) > 400d (XTi) > 1000d (XS) > 350d (XT)

400d is good to learn but u will quickly reach its limits. a 40D is a great camera, and with the addition of some nice L lenses it's fantastic.
or - wait a few weeks till the 5D (mark I) comes down in price due to the mark II coming out.

If you can push into the 30D/40D/50D range then you will be learning on a body thats about the smae size and ergonics of most of canons cameras. You will find it easier to jump between 5D/5D mkiis, 30D, 40D, 50D etc. Sure you might not be able to afford these cameras but you may end up renting or borrowing them.
The other benefits are of course the fact they they will be a better all round camera than the 300D/350D/400D/450D etc bodies.
Just something to think about if you plan on sticking with photography for the next few years. Once you have forgotten about the cost you will still have a great camera in your hands.
- you're so quick to these camera threads - like me! lovin itforcetwelve

is a 50D a better cam than a 40D?
- Tungsten0
50D files are way noisier at high iso than 40D files/
- ah right. so its not a true 15mp sensor i assumeforcetwelve
- it is a true 15mp chip. That's just physically to many for an APS-C sized sensor. More pixel density = more noiseTungsten

To answer yr question> I would go for the EOS 450D. On top of that there is a cashback until the 12th January 2009.
The 1000D is the same body with some new features but,,,,is it worth it? There is also a cashback on it but just on the 1000D 18-55 IS.Your choice.
PS: I wouldnt recommend to buy a kit (with 18-55) lens is poor. All depends on yr budget.
- I read an enthusiastic review on the 18-55 IS... here:

Thanks, so what lens would you recommend??
- According to the review above, you're safe with 18-55 IS, but stay away from the non-IS versionrafalski
- I would at the very least try for a 17-85mm IS USM walk around lens. The 17-40L is probably going to be too much $$$.slappy
- The kit lens would get you shooting so you can research what you want to do long term. I think the glass is made of plastic though :)slappy
