How long's a piece of string?
Depends on your budget, workspace, area of expertise, and need for portability. I've got a 30" but is it the best? To me it is but others prefer multiple smaller displays (video editors for example).

Get the biggest that you can afford. You won't be sorry. Splash out for a thirty now and you'll be set for a loooong time.

hp has a nice 24" in that price range: LP2475
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/u…LED cinema would work too, but it's right at the top of your range.

30 is mammoth. i've got a 20" widescreen and run my 15" mbp in dual mode. plenty enough screen for me.

A 20" display will have the same pixel dimensions as a 17" macbookpro.

and here it is again, the link i must paste in every display thread

you can search a model or by manufacturer. a lot of them use the same panel. also, look at the panel type:
an S-IPS type panel will have the best color and viewing angle. not so good for gaming though. best display for design.
S-PVA has better contrast and black and crispy text, but the color isn't as good. better for gaming.
don't bother with TN

I've got 4 screens at work. 2 are Samsung Syncmaster XL20's - They are only 20" but do 1600x1200. The colour intensity is amazing, they are extremely bright (thanks to LED) and also VERY crisp.
Great screens :)
Don't know how much they are going for at the moment but I highly recommend!

30" is for wussies. Be a man and go for 40".
