I always liked City Spice on brick lane, but I've not been down there for a while because my nearest curry house is great now. The Red Rose on Holloway Road.
Endorsed by these guys:
But if you're down brick lane you have to go get a bag of bagels to take home. They are the best. If you're not having a curry, go get one to eat there and then with salt beef.

Brick Lane is alright but let's face it, if you want to get hardcore about curry, you're going to have to hoof it to Bradford.

I had a curry on brick lane once, very disappointing.
(Stag party, so they put handfulls of chilli in everything).

Me and a mate were out looking for a feed and stumbled into this place one cold winter, rainy night... It's one of the best meals I've ever had. It's called:
La Porte des Indes
http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/rest…It's not cheap, but the food was 10/10.

sounds interesting. don't think my local does that.

they do this katmadu chicken at our local place. fucking brilliant.

I quite fancy a curry now.
Will get one later.
What should I have?

I've had allot of bad ones on brick lane.
http://www.tayyabs.co.uk/ is your best bet.

I have indeed eaten in Southall and the rumours are true.
I think I'm going to give Preem a go. I'll keep you all posted...

My wife is a restaurant reviewer and food writer for time out, bbc, guardian etc, and she absolutely assures me that the best budget curry house around there is Tayyabs. Although she mentioned that is you want a proper proper curry head to Southall, where I would recommend the Brilliant.
If you want a posh curry around the East End, Café Spice Namasté is a good one. More towards Tower hill, but regularly named in the top 10 in the country. I've been there a couple of times and it's the best I've had in East London. http://www.london-eating.co.uk/1…
If you fancy traveling, Monty's in Northfields just got named as the best neighborhood curry house in London by the good food guide, whatever that means.

Curry Capital... its way up Brick Lane, near to the famous 24hr Bagels place... easily the best, they won’t harrass you and the food is amazing.

also.... sounds crap but 'curry capital' is actually pretty good. certainly is the capital of curry in my book.

I guess it the quality all depends on how pissed you are right?

famous curry bazzaar
standard balti house is good
- agentfour0
Standard is the best i've been to. They also don't offer free shit, which is generally a good sign. But I have not been to Preem.
The best curry i've had was on Berwick st in soho up oxford st end.

This is sandwiched between two curry houses, I do hope they aren't aware of the irony...

standard balti house has been recommended by my old flat mate, never been though.

Hmmm, sounds like Preem's in the lead here...

Yeah Preem is definitely best. It's the cream fronted place.
The way you know it's good ----> they don't try to offer you free stuff or complimentary watered down beer. They're confident enough in their quality
