ukit, who's turn it is? Take a look at the frequency of elections in the U.S. It IS the Democrats turn, regardless of the candidate. In no way do I think GWB was popular down the home stretch and that will propel anyone going against the Republicans. Neither was Bill Clintons. His approval rating was in the sh*tter due to his sex scandals and GWB won because of it.
Barack Obama is the second coming of Jimmy Carter. Bush = Ford
- I thought you were a man of statistics ukit?********
- Actually, I stand correct about Clinton approval rating, it was high at Bill Clinton (2001) 65%.********
- so you're entire point is garbage then, I see. Really adamant about it before.DrBombay
- My comparison to Bush/Ford hold true. I'll stick by that claim.********
- Obama will have problems in officeLlyod

I don't think it makes sense to equate Bush with Ford, Obama with Carter, as if history repeats itself every 30 years (I realize why conservatives like that analogy though, because that means Reagan will be next:). If anything you could compare Carter to Bush, because he created a generational shift to the other party through his failings.
- Conservatives have nothing to do it, but if you think Obama will win 8 and then some other Dem will win your nutz.********
- bad grammar, sorry tried to fit that in one********

And I'm linking Ford to the dirty Nixon presidency, since you asked. Comparing Bush to Carter is ridiculous. Carter was only in for four years and didn't weather quite the sh*tstom as Bush did.

I don't think you can draw direct comparisons, they are all different, but I will say this - long term, the Republicans are gonna need to make some major changes if they want to keep winning elections. It is not just Bush's impact, the younger generation is overwhelmingly Dem, and the numbers of Hispanics are growly rapidly. The Repubs will need to rethink their strategy or they will become a regional party stuck in the South.
- the number of Hispanics feel disenfranchised by Bushie. socially they are much more aligned with conservatives********
- young people tend to vote for the Dems, as history shows. older people for the Reps. that's not gonna change********
- not when all the conservatives do is court the religious and the old people.DrBombay
- Actually, people tend to stick with the party they have voted with in the pastukit
- I agree********
- Which is why more people who grew up in the 80s are conservative, whereas people today are tending more liberalukit
- I was agreeing with DrBombay. I disagree with you ukit.********
- Well I agree with dobs too:Dukit

President Carter was responsible for a lot of positives internationally. Gas lines and hostages are what ultimately did him in politically.
President Nixon was also skilled in foreign policy. Unfortunately, he was also a liar and a typical cheating politician: essentially the quintessential member of the political sphere of that time. Simply put, a "die by the sword" end for him.
President Bush's decisions have resulted in so many deaths and so much heartache it makes me sick to my stomach.
I was recently reading one page summaries of Presidents 1-43 and felt the bare historical facts really miss the truth of this current administration. I wonder what I'm missing from all of those before my lifetime?
