I don't think it makes sense to equate Bush with Ford, Obama with Carter, as if history repeats itself every 30 years (I realize why conservatives like that analogy though, because that means Reagan will be next:). If anything you could compare Carter to Bush, because he created a generational shift to the other party through his failings.
