what period of classical music are you working around? a bit of research of the typefaces around at the correct time should inform your decision I would have thought. 'classical' music could be represented by anything from blackletter to helvetica via didot and everything else in between to be honest

DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH

"Classical" music (which in itself technically only represents around 100 years of composition) doesn't have fonts. Publishing companies and CD labels do. Everything is based around the style and packaging of a composer, ensemble, soloist, etc.
I've have Monteverdi records with modern typography as well as period calligraphy. This stuff is sold the same as anything, depends on the market and all other factors.
- clearly, I'm sure his point was that he wanted period type styles though, surely?kelpie

what a piece of work.

@harliquino, you are of course right - this is one of my favourite current cd packaging designs for instance. 8 disks, really great looking thing

Yeah, kelpie, I'm a sucker for those album designs as well. The cool, academic minimalist thing always gets me.
Side note - I met Mitsuko Uchida a number of years back. Damn sultry broad, in person. :)

I'm looking at Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras of European art music. I've been looking through fontshop - found a couple of nice typefaces. Just thought i'd come here for some other inspiration...
Fonts i've found are
The Baroque Set
Young Baroque Com Plain
ITC Edwardian Script
Goudy Catalogue
Pontif
Classical Garamond
Classical Titling

Yes to Young Baroque, no to the other scripts.
If you use Garamond, use one of Adobe's versions, either Garamond Pro or Premier Pro. Other cuts of Garamond are not well drawn.
Minion Pro or Bembo would also be appropriate.
Didot could be useful.
Really, this one is a bit up to interpretation as others have said.
- I'm currently using Minion Pro on a project and am enjoying it immensely.gramme

Caslon Pro would also be appropriate for something from the 18th century.
