I've thought about starting my own stock site selling rights to images I've shot myself over the past 10 yrs or so.
seems like you'd have a better chance at providing something unique and a better probability of making some cash.
let's do a QBN stock image site.
- but you wont have the visibility of a site like iStockphoto wich is veeerrrryyyy popularbenfal99
- +1 for a QBN stockimage sitebenfal99
- so- if all QBNers used it it wouldn't matter.doesnotexist

while raising prices over at iStock, Getty is now lowering their prices on low-res royalty free and rights managed in their other collections. $5-50, not bad if you don't need the resolution.

They are gonna gradually raise them every week until before you notice it is back at the Getty level, and then quietly redirect the iStock site to Getty, and go back to being a money making company.
*I see what they did there

I still can't believe that cost of some of the images out there! iStock is great, price wise, but quality is definitely less than Corbis or Getty.
I just priced a photo for a client, chose a Flexible License, price came to $18,000 for one image for 2 years!!!!
Crazy
- As long as that photo can cure cancer, I'd say it's worth it.imakethepictures

Do you also find it funny that since Getty has bought them they introduced a plan for selling logos on istock..

What I find most appalling is that they only pay their contributors 20%. I mean, these are the people that created EVERYTHING that they are selling and they are only giving them 1/5th of the selling price. That is insulting. I can earn more promoting just about any affiliate deal online and I don't have to actually create a thing. I don't have to have any creative skills to do so.
You can earn more if you promise exclusivity and sell a pile of images, up to a whopping 40%. I would have expected that is where the percentage would start and that it would go to 60% if you were a power seller.
- stock used to be 50/50, back in the day, when I worked for a stock agency... getty changed thatvaxorcist

Actually Corbis = Microsoft:
from Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cor…
"Corbis is privately owned by Bill Gates, who founded the company in 1989 under the name Interactive Home Systems (a name currently held by an unrelated, slightly older company based in Concord, Massachusetts). One major reason for starting the company was Gates's belief that people would someday decorate their homes with a revolving display of digital artwork using digital frames.[1] The company's name was changed to Continuum Productions in 1994 and to Corbis Corporation a year later. "Corbis" is Latin for "wicker basket", which at the time referred to the company's emerging view of itself as a receptacle or storehouse for visual media. Its Bettmann Archive (acquired in 1995) is stored 220 feet underground in a refrigerated cave in the Iron Mountain storage facility.[2]"
