Gille Duceppe was right. Only the Bloc can stop the conservatives and you can't rule Canada without Quebec.
- Too bad the Bloc is worthless for anyone outside of Quebec.eegrek
- The Bloc is actually a an awesome party. They and the NDP should join forces.pylon
- Sorry pylon, I'm not a lefty, and I don't understand why anyone would want to separate from this beautiful country.eegrek
- Haha. If the Bloc dropped the separatist bit they'd be a strong left, but still a good party.pylon

Fuckin' boring election, the one south of our border is much more exciting.

D'oh.
Ah well, it's a Blue morning...

Because of mandatory voting, election days always occur on a weekend in Australia. It's always struck me as a little bizarre that they would pick a weekday. I know it's optional for Canadians and Americans alike, but surely that's got to make it a lot harder for those who DO want to make their vote count.
Would anyone here rather it was on a weekend or do you like it the way it is?

Any early results? East coast numbers in yet?

I'd rather it be mandatory, like many other countries. Voting is an essential part of democracy.
I personally don't care what day of the week it is, but I do hear what you're saying BH.
Canada does have proportional representation, something which could really change the political landscape here. It's been suggested a bunch of times but I guess it's quite difficult to initiate that type of change within a system...- I heard a 50% turn out. Sad.sikma
- I heard some woman talking about how her kid wasn't going to go vote because she wasn't feeling well, pathetic.2cents
- Hmmm...I admire Australia, but I don't want people who don't know anything about anything voting either.Jaline

- I agree with Jaline, if you don't know any better whats the point in the voting.eegrek

I think the voter turn out this year is going to be hovering around 60% or less. I really don't think anyone cares this election. Another minority gov.

conservative government again.
woo.

fuck.

That's a good point Jaline makes in the side-comments that you'd rather not have clueless hacks obliged to vote. I guess the flip-side to that is that when everyone botes, the result you're getting can't be disputed or argued about based solely on voted turnout or anything like that. The party that gets the most votes and consequently the most seats wins.
While we all know that the election in 2000 was rigged, and that Kerry shouldn't have conceded when he did in 2004, it makes me sad to think that either of these outcomes could have been avoided, had a few more democrats decided to get off their ass, and make their party the clear victor in the election.

I'm going to start the Alcoholics Party

"But with just under 60 per cent of the votes counted at 2 a.m. ET Wednesday, turnout hovered around 59 per cent. That figure was slightly below the lowest turnout recorded in 2004 at 60.9 per cent when Paul Martin's Liberals won a minority government."
LOL what a shock!

I wonder if we should do a remake of the Green Party Logo?
What a terrible green!
