Seems like Canada still isn't ready for the Conservatives. It just feels like everyone you talk to doesn't trust them or fears of some type of hidden agenda. At the same time the Liberals still some time to get their shit together. Maybe the NDP can break Ed Broadbands seat record!

I heard some asshole today justifying himself voting conservative by ripping apart all the other parties with his own little personal reasons against each of them. I tried to block him out, but I remember hearing him saying that he wasn't voting for the green party because they've never held any seats in parliament, therefore they suck.
No wonder our country is run by a muppet in an argyle sweatervest.

why does quebec vote conservative so much?
- They didn't do very well in Quebec. Thank god.sikma
- but it was the bloc and them and no else...I would have thought something more left would fare betterKwesiJ
- My understanding is that the Bloc is the voice of the left in Quebec.sikma
- ah right makes a little senseKwesiJ
- well, only 10 contivative elected..
same as the last campainelektro - conservative*elektro

Gille Duceppe was right. Only the Bloc can stop the conservatives and you can't rule Canada without Quebec.
- Too bad the Bloc is worthless for anyone outside of Quebec.eegrek
- The Bloc is actually a an awesome party. They and the NDP should join forces.pylon
- Sorry pylon, I'm not a lefty, and I don't understand why anyone would want to separate from this beautiful country.eegrek
- Haha. If the Bloc dropped the separatist bit they'd be a strong left, but still a good party.pylon

Because of mandatory voting, election days always occur on a weekend in Australia. It's always struck me as a little bizarre that they would pick a weekday. I know it's optional for Canadians and Americans alike, but surely that's got to make it a lot harder for those who DO want to make their vote count.
Would anyone here rather it was on a weekend or do you like it the way it is?
- pylon0
I'd rather it be mandatory, like many other countries. Voting is an essential part of democracy.
I personally don't care what day of the week it is, but I do hear what you're saying BH.
Canada does have proportional representation, something which could really change the political landscape here. It's been suggested a bunch of times but I guess it's quite difficult to initiate that type of change within a system...- I heard a 50% turn out. Sad.sikma
- I heard some woman talking about how her kid wasn't going to go vote because she wasn't feeling well, pathetic.2cents
- Hmmm...I admire Australia, but I don't want people who don't know anything about anything voting either.Jaline
- lol.monNom
- I agree with Jaline, if you don't know any better whats the point in the voting.eegrek

conservative government again.
woo.
- imnotadesigner0
fuck.

That's a good point Jaline makes in the side-comments that you'd rather not have clueless hacks obliged to vote. I guess the flip-side to that is that when everyone botes, the result you're getting can't be disputed or argued about based solely on voted turnout or anything like that. The party that gets the most votes and consequently the most seats wins.
While we all know that the election in 2000 was rigged, and that Kerry shouldn't have conceded when he did in 2004, it makes me sad to think that either of these outcomes could have been avoided, had a few more democrats decided to get off their ass, and make their party the clear victor in the election.

"But with just under 60 per cent of the votes counted at 2 a.m. ET Wednesday, turnout hovered around 59 per cent. That figure was slightly below the lowest turnout recorded in 2004 at 60.9 per cent when Paul Martin's Liberals won a minority government."
LOL what a shock!
- D_Dot0
59% voter turnout!!!??? Are you kidding me Canada!!!???
- Jaline0
Lowest Liberal support since the Confederation
- Doesn't surprise me. Dion is gone. Not sure who will replace him.canuck
- I wouldn't be surprised to see young trudeau taking a step for that leadership roll down the road.canuck
- Gerard Kennedy will replace Dion. He's too damn good looking not to.Andrew_D
- I respect that Dion is honest, but I never believed in him.Jaline
