Hey guys,
As a freelancer I was just wondering about different ways you go about finding new projects/work. While there are resources like be hance etc I find that it is super competitive and I wouldn't mind hearing from some people who get work from their local area or close by.
:D

drop fliers/brouchures in neighborhood mail boxes that just say "hey, this is who i am, just set up, here's what i do, stop by anytime."

1. Design your self a kick-ass website with solid work
2. Email and or call ADs & CDs with a brief intro & link to work
3. Netwrok your ass off at every creative/design/business event

hit the pavement. if you're freelance then your work depends on the studios / agencies you'll be working for and they won't know you exist until you tell them.
i found that once you get out there people you work with know other studios and pass on your name. it can kind of escalate from there.
also, don't stress about your folio. i whacked some pdf's on a cd when i was freelancing and once i started work with some studios i didn't even need to show anyone work again. you end up being perceived as valuable by already being used. a bit like when you're in a relationship chicks suddenly find you attractive.
a thorough email campaign can't hurt either.
one important thing, people choose from 'top of mind' so keep in contact. when they need someone they need them urgently (usually) so if you're the name they remember you're in. once you're in the door then it's up to you and your work ethic.

also, many of the better places often don't use or trust the recruitment places. understandable they are more impressed with someone who has the nous to get off their arse and make it happen for themselves.
this isn't always true nor true everywhere but something to at least think about.

word of mouth works best i find,.. print loads of b.cards , and give a couple to everyone you know, friend of a friend type jobs are bound to flood in!

going through people you have worked with before works well.
every time you do a job, keep the contact of the person who is hiring, make sure they know the multitude of skills that you have as well as your specialisms. Every month or so, email these people with your available dates, even if there are only a few dates, so that you are "current" in their heads.

what do you mean with available dates in this context, vespa?
