Historically government defeating collations have failed miserable. So the Liberals better shine 'cause they will get one hell of a spanking in the next election if they don't.

The only good talk radio station here (as far as I know) is 580 CFRA (besides CBC radio). Some caller just said, "It's as if though three men got together and decided to gang rape a woman". The host then added, "...and they blame her because of how she's dressed."
what the...
All the conservatives are calling in (as usual) and yelling. Planning a protest near Parliament this Thursday.

If the Liberals and NDP let Harper cut their funding they wouldn't stand a chance in the next election. So they may as well seize power instead of losing it later.
Dion will be gone in May and Michael Ignatieff will have one year to convince the populate that the Liberals are an organized and effective government. That's the catch.

I think this is long-term political suicide for the Liberals. Seizing power in a crisis. They won't be able to turn it around, they will be blamed for everything, simple because they are in power and the Conservatives will look even better next election.
Better to vote a strong new leader in, show strength as a party again, have a strong platform and earn it next election. Stop being so selfish and acting like spoiled children who didn't get their way. This financial crisis needs the government to put aside differences and work together for the country... yes that means Conservatives too, ALL parties.
- sikma0
I agree with you ETM. The Liberals are risking everything they have here.
But Harper left them no choice. This is HIS doing. Cutting the funding of the opposition will be know as his worst moment.
- ETM0
Why is this even needed? The Conservatives have a minority... can the other parties simply not vote the bill / budget down?
- sikma0
They don't want an election - we just had one. They want power and Harper has given them a reason to grab it. Some would say he has forced them to do it.

I look forward to what will happen in the next few days, on december 8 it is opposition day at the parlement

during harper's previous government he made almost every issue a non-confidence vote. (meaninig if shot down, elections are automatically declared) and because the liberals were unorganised they were pretty much forced to vote in favour.
this is a shady political tactic to pretty much do what you want while in a minority government.
and then harper blamed the liberals and the minority for the government being inneficiant and calls an election by himself out of the blue. (read: wants a majority) but because of the genius of the electoral system and the voters themselves, they refused to give this intelligent man full power with a majority.... again.
so harper tries the same tactic again. try to do what he wants. make it extremely right winged so the opposition parties cry fowl. he points at them and says : "see! they slow the process down" and then cuts back on the harcore right wing stuff he knew wouldnt pass to get what he really wanted to go through. but this time the opposition party said enough. screw you and your 80s hair cut.
(i havent had coffee yet so i might of rambled a bit there... and too tired to check my spelling)
