Dion is an idiot and an embarrassment. He was a failure as a Liberal party leader, so why should he become PM like this? He's not capable. If the Liberals are hell bent on doing this, elect a new, more capable leader first within the party.
Although Harper is not great, he's somewhat more capable than Dion and its what Canadians voted on. Like it or not.
To have Liberals come in and increase spending now would be a disaster. And a stimulus package is a band-aid, not a solution. Plus, do you really think our government looking a bit unstable to the world will help any economic conditions. C'mon, get real. There is nothing more important than stability right now, be it a company, bank or government.
Hopefully, it's all posturing like a union going to the company and threatening strike if they don't get what they want. Doing this would be political suicide in the long term.
Jaline, you out there? Working in Ottawa, whats the feeling there?
- how is harper better if he's not doing anything about the economy and doesn't have a majority of votes to begin with?KwesiJ
- seems like a pretty measly PM, Canadians in general did NOT vote conservative, hence the meaning of a coalition.KwesiJ
- You think Dion is the answer? You think left wing spending is the answer now?ETM
- i have to say it seems not like liberal spending but big business spending. its just the libs who can do it proper.KwesiJ
- but thats what makes it pretty fishyKwesiJ

What a joke.

Ugh. Not Dion.
Bad timing too. It makes you wonder if anyone cares about the country, or if they are all just in it for the power.

ETM,
by selecting someone who is NOT Dion within a couple of days to be the new head of the Liberal party wouldn't be very democratic and viewed by many as not the the rightful Prime Minister. People know who Dion is. And people also know Dion is leaving. that's a fact. he's there to lead with competent ministers (just read up on who they are inviting to be part of the economy minister's advisor team). he will step down when the time is less urgent to carefully select a better leader.
he's not going to take us to war. not going to cut public funding for political parties for personal political gains. not going to ban public servant's right to strike. both Harper and Dion are smart men. The difference is the will and tactics used with said intelligence. Dion is willing to delegate jobs to people who are better suited. Harper is a control freak.
this coalition government would represent 100 times more the results of the last election than harper's sorry excuse of a government.
- Tungsten0
As much as I hate Harper I can't help but feel this move by the coalition is extremely bad timing. This could backfire in a really big way.
- sikma0
Historically government defeating collations have failed miserable. So the Liberals better shine 'cause they will get one hell of a spanking in the next election if they don't.
- ETM0
I think this is long-term political suicide for the Liberals. Seizing power in a crisis. They won't be able to turn it around, they will be blamed for everything, simple because they are in power and the Conservatives will look even better next election.
Better to vote a strong new leader in, show strength as a party again, have a strong platform and earn it next election. Stop being so selfish and acting like spoiled children who didn't get their way. This financial crisis needs the government to put aside differences and work together for the country... yes that means Conservatives too, ALL parties.

Fanco:
As you said: "by selecting someone who is NOT Dion within a couple of days to be the new head of the Liberal party wouldn't be very democratic and viewed by many as not the the rightful Prime Minister."Maybe you should familiarize yourself on how Dion became leader of the Liberal party before you mention democratic process.
- he got elected by his peers and members of the liberal parties. how is that not the democratic process?Fanco
- I want to add, I am not hard core Conservative by any means. But I have no faith in the current Liberals.ETM
- selecting a member now without the consent of the whole liberal party members isnt right.Fanco
- if they picked someone now it would only be those on the parliamental hillFanco
- He did NOT get elected by his peers. That's the point. Look it up. He was 3rd in line.ETM
- The party in general did not vote on it, only a select few get to.ETM
- If Gerard Kennedy hadn't made the closed door deal to transfer his supporters behind Dion, Dion would have been 3rd.ETM
- i honestly find it confusing how they select a leader. that should change to simple votes for a candidate.Fanco

75% of Canadians told CTV's poll they want the economy stimulated, doesn't matter who does it. So now nothing's happening until February! Good going Steve-O, way to put Canadians ahead of your partisan bullshit!
- ETM0
Also, he is to step down in May, and then our new PM will be decided by the Liberal party, not Canadians. Again... democratic?
From a stability standpoint and the economy... we'd then have 3 different Prime Minister's within 8 months. Yes... good plan.
- MisterMonk0
Just get OBAMA up there and take over.
- it's about time you showed up!sikma
- lol u guys miss all my douchebag comments.MisterMonk
- sikma0
I agree with you ETM. The Liberals are risking everything they have here.
But Harper left them no choice. This is HIS doing. Cutting the funding of the opposition will be know as his worst moment.
- Fanco0
i suddenly feel like sending hatefull stuff to Harper and Dion.
(and have a RCMP dossier for myself.)
- sikma0
Unbelievable. So instead of facing the music he runs away with his tail between his legs.
Harper's days are now numbered.
- JazX0
- Jaline0
Harper claimed there were no Canadian flags around the members of the coalition when they were revealing their decision about their unity, probably because one member (Duceppe) doesn't believe that Canada should be unified. Video evidence proves there were two. haha
- ETM0
Why is this even needed? The Conservatives have a minority... can the other parties simply not vote the bill / budget down?
